How to set the correct White Balance

Can someone please put in VERY Simple Terms how to set my white balance? I have a cannon 30D.

I know you should set it each time you shoot. Please tell me how to do this.

Montine, the choice of white balance is one that I usually leave to the camera. By that I mean that one of your choices is AWB: automatic white balance. The 30D does very well in most cases with that setting, and it also means you don't have to remember to change the setting every time you go from outside to inside, sunny to cloudy, etc.

If you need specific help for the 30D and find the manual difficult to follow, please PM me and I'll step you through it. It's done using the LCD display on the top of the camera, not the menus, so it's pretty straightforward.

And remember, if you shoot in RAW format (RAW rules by the way) white balance can be set later in your PP work to anything your heart desires but it is still nice to get it right in camera.

I usually shoot in AWB as well. However, if I am looking for a particular look...warm, cool, etc, I will select one of the pre-set white balance settings...cloudy to warm up an image, incandescent to cool down a scene and so on. You can use the white balance for creative uses as well as for correcting a color cast.
As Bob mentions, if you shoot in RAW, you can change the white balance in the digital darkroom too.
