Our office will be closed for at least the morning of Monday October 24th as we await hurricane Wilma to pass us by. At this point the forecast is for the hurricance to pass south of us but we still expect high winds and lots of rain.
So, please do not expect any reponse from us until we're able to return to the office on Tuesday (or hopefully Monday afternoon)

Phew, we're glad that's over. The Tampa area (where we are) made it through with only lots of rain & wind and debris here and there. Areas to the south of us were not so lucky :(
Anyways, we're back at it, safe & sound. Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers.

Glad to hear you made it in Tampa. DH and I left Ft. Myers early as we fly to Australia and then on to the Antarctic on Tuesday, and didn't dare miss the trip due to Wilma. Haven't heard from our kids yet as there is obviously little operating down there and they may be conserving on their cell phones. We're talking south of Fort Myers, and it was getting hammered.

I have $200 electric bills for AC, I take pictures of the storms, I live *extremely* close to work and rarely drive anywhere else
That's how I manage :)

Tami, Dave and the Whole Crew,
I am relieved that it was not worse and everyone is safe. We haven't heard from our Aunt in the Tampa area yet. Has anyone heard from Thomas?

I'm glad everyone made it through the storm safe and sound. I was hoping it would be a quick mover because I'm coming to visit your lovely state in 4 weeks and was hoping the damage would be minimal. I know there was a lot but not too much where I'm going. I will be going to the Tampa/Clearwater area. I fell in love with the place last year when I went to Big Cat Rescue in Tampa. Hopefully there will be no more storms this year!

r.....oh, and a zillion people all driving badly....how do you all manage ?
After living here almost 3 years it has become apparent to me that Florida cars must all have broken turn indicators. I've never seen a place where no one uses turn signals!
BTW, many Floridians blame the Canadian snow birds for some of the poor driving we experience here...
As for the weather, all I can say is, it doesn't snow and I wear shorts to work every day!

But Dave, you miss fall!! It's my favourite season! And you also have all those nasty storms to deal with. I think there is always a trade off. My only wish is that our winters were a bit shorter.

Dave,
They have outlawed blinkers in Southern Ca. as well, retirees don't now how to use them either......
CarolLHB
October 26th, 2005, 05:46 PM
Nope, no blinkers in Massachusetts, either... :D

Dave, I totally understand that when you have a fine job and you are surrounded by good people that you can overcome any of the negatives involved with being a resident of the Sunshine State. I did in fact live there a time or two over the years and I enjoyed winters without snow. Tho i did not have the luxury of feeling like i belonged there at any given time. But then, i feel the same way about where i am living now so I guess that really doesn't mean much. I'm glad you and your family made it through the storm without too much incident. As far as driving badly.... no blinkers is just a minor part. Red lights don't mean stop and it's OK to blast your horn at someone who is driving too slowly. It's best to have your windows closed at stopped intersections whether or not you have air conditioning on since ya never know what trash might fly in your window...literarily and figuratively. Other than that....I guess there could be worse places to live.
