Dear Forum readers
I have an important rush job on and am fumbling my way through Photoshop elements 5 for the first time. I need to fade photo images out at the top to nothing. PLEASE can some kind person tell me how to do this ? The help button on the software only refers to the paint buttons but i'm not getting anywhere. Your help is very much appreciated. kind regards.

Here is two of many ways to do this:

With the marquee tool select the part of the image you want to see.
Set a feather on the selection--fairly large
Invert the selection Select>Invert
Make a new layer above the image layer
Fill the selection with white (for the photo to fade with white)

Or:
With the marquee tool select the part of the image you want to see.
Set a feather on the selection--fairly large
Invert the selection Select>Invert
Make a solid fill adjustment layer--white
Paint on the layer using a soft brush with black/white to adjust the fade
