After uninstalling the trial version of PSE6 and installing from my new CD I had big problems with PSE6 crashing last night (See THIS THREAD (http://www.elementsvillage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35229))

So I uninstalled Grant's Tool and the actions I had added. Made no difference, PSE still wouldn't start. So I rebooted the computer. Nada. Reset preferences. Still nothing. Finally I uninstalled PSE6 and then reinstalled it. Ta da! It worked. I really wanted to install the actions and Graffi's tools, but I was worried that it would cause PSE6 to not open/crash once again. So I very carefully ran just one set of the Photoblast EZ Actions. Tried to start up PSE6 and it started, but it hung.....and hung....and hung.....the status monitor was creeping up slowly but taking forever and I was tired so I left it and went to bed.

This morning I came down and discovered that not only the action set I ran, but every single action or effect I had installed on my trial version of PSE6 was there, including Grant's tools and various other Graffi actions plus some others. How on earth did they get there? They definitely were not in my Effects palette last night.

I think the "wire-tangle" fairies came in to mess with your wires and saw the problem while they were there and fixed it for you. :D

Very bizarre! I had wierd problems the whole time the trial version was installed and then when I uninstalled it everything was back to normal.

Wow Bayla. There's been news reports about people taking sleeping medications then finding that they've eaten everything in the fridge, or driven the car while they slept. Maybe you've got a neighbor that fixes computers while he/she sleepwalks. :D

Maybe the commands were all "in memory" and the break you gave the keyboard just allowed a catch up? Weird. Although I think there is probably something to the wire-tangle fairies theory.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the app will run great for you now.

I don't know about the rest of you - but this is just plain scary

Who are those fairies - and why don't they introduce themselves.

I have so many questions for them...

I don't think you need to worry about fairies or even gremlins ;). I suspect that the actions were there all the time they just didn't show in the effects pallette. When it appeared to hang overnight it was rebuilding the database and finding all the effects.

So why did someone tell me in another post that I'd have to rerun all the actions and reinstall all the layer styles if I uninstalled the trial version of PSE6 and then installed afresh from the CD?

I don't really know because I've never done it but I did have a Beta version of CS3 installed at one time and even though I uninstalled it it left a lot of files floating around that I still run across from time to time. I can only guess that PSE6 is the same way - uninstall doesn't clean out everything and probably didn't clean out the extra actions you'd installed.
