View Full Version : PSE6 Crashing

I installed PSE6 today and have experienced many crash incidents since. It gives me the "PSE6 has experienced a problem and needs to shut down" message. PSE4 always ran happily on my system so this is puzzling me. Can anyone point me in the right direction as far as diagnosing the problem?

Julie,

I was just about to start a new thread when I saw yours.

Today I uninstalled the trial version of PSE6, then reinstalled from the CD.(I also installed Grants' Tools and some actions from EZ Actions which were running fine on the trial version.) But I cannot get it to load at all! I just get a similar error message as you 'Adobe Photoshop Elements has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.'

I'd also love to know what to do! I was soooo excited to finally get my copy of PSE6 and was soooo looking forward to using it but I feel like screaming!

Me too! Here's hoping someone comes along with some advice for us!

Hi Gals

There is another thread along a similar line a few down. Seems windows atuoupdater messed something up as PE6 was working fine before an update.

One additional thing to try, as it worked in helping a student install PSE6 on a Windows XP SP2, try deactivating your antivirus software and deactivate firewall until installation of 6 is successful, then reactivate antivirus software and firewall. Software involved was Norton in this case. Hope this helps.

Another thing you could try is doing a system restore to a point before the trial version of E6 and the windows update. Turn off virus scan and firewall reinstall E6 and hold off on the windows update for a week or two.
Don't forget to turn your virus scan and firewall back on.

Well, I ended up uninstalling and reinstalling and it's now working....but go read THIS THREAD (http://www.elementsvillage.com/forums/showthread.php?p=364155#post364155) to see something really strange!

I checked the Adobe forum and someone with the same problem was advised to uninstall/reinstall Wacom drivers and uninstall something called Intellipoint (related to Microsoft mouse). I've done that and so far it hasn't crashed, though I haven't given it a good test run yet. It does run very slow compared to PSE4 so I may end up doing an uninstall/reinstall (without antivirus turned on this time. :o)

Bayla, I'm glad you solved your problem. It is funny about the add-ins coming back mysteriously. I am actually glad to get rid of a lot of the ones I never used in PSE4 - they really cluttered things up and I could never find what I really wanted. I'm going to keep PSE6 pretty streamlined and will only put the essential Grant's Tools in for the time being anyway...

I also started a thread with the same problem. Currently next to each other in the main page. If enough of us have the same problem and keep sending a report MS must find out what they have done to cause us this problem. I'm very frustrated and tried to go back to a previous restore point but without any good results

Hi Jon,

I did send the report each time it happened yesterday. Today, no incidents so far...

It does run very slow compared to PSE4

Can you give more detail about what in particular is slow? The Organizer or Editor? Particular operations?

Hi John,

I've used it pretty heavily today and haven't had any crash problems. Likewise, it seems to be operating at an appropriate speed. All seems good now. Thanks for your response though!
