I had my computer in best buy on the 10th of feb to clean it out & get rid of any viruses i had. Last year i added more memory (total 2gig). It still seems very slow even though i still have alot of space on my hard drive & memory left. Ive been putting off getting a new computer for about a year now because i didnt want to use vista in light of all the problems its had. Im afraid i may have to do just that. Does anyone know if I will beable to transfer ALL my photoshop actions, plugins , PSE4 & just purchased CS3 to vista. Also how different are these programs going to be in vista? Do they have action, plugins, brushes etc... for vista? Please someone enlighten me. God, I have a feeling this is going to be a disaster http://photoshopcreativeelements.com/images/smilies/cry.gif

Linda,
I read a while back that some stores were offering to install XP for free on new machines that had factory installed Vista. Maybe BestBuy does.

Excellent advice Carol! Absolutely no viruses, no adware, no spyware... just fast-running, beautifully designed computing goodness :)
FYI, I write/teach for Macworld so I'm totally biased!

Consider a mac. With a little easy to use maintenance your computer will run for years without problems. My last mac ran for for 8 years without problems. Well worth the extra expense of buying a mac.
Also, they are so easy to use.

Don't believe all of the fear mongering about Vista. Yes, it does have a couple of quirks, but it is a very stable operating system. I have it and can say I have zero problems. Here is my outfit for photo-editing.
Intel 6850 dual core CPU
4.0 gb of memory
Two 320 gb internal disks
Sapphire graphics card with 512 mb memory
Samsung 30 inch LCD
eSATA RAID with two 750 gb disk drives
D-LINK NAS with two 320 gb disk drives
Nikon Coolscan digital film scanner
Photo Elements 6
Premiere Elements 4
Lightroom 1.3.1
Office 2007
All running on Vista. Rock solid.

Errrrr; Thats a lot of hard drive space there. Do you do much editing. I have three hard drives out of a fear of lost photos (happened once, urrr!).
Also budget might be an issue.
I've had pc's and Macs. Mac's are boring because they just work without the need for fiddling. And, no virii and spies.

I have been having the same fear of getting Vista but a friend just bought me a few weeks ago an imac out of the blue and I LOVE it.
I am still using my PC also.
I spoke to Adobe and they will change over my CS3 for a Mac version if I decide for 6.00 shipping and handling.
I will purchase E6 for mac since I now have 4 and 5 for my PC.
I am also so use to fiddling with windows it just seems strange to be able to turn on a computer (mac) and it is up and running in seconds. Maybe a MAC is in your future. I am really enjoying it.

The eSATA RAID is directly connected to the PC. This is my primary work space for photo editing and storage of digital images. The D-LINK network attached storage is used as a final archiving medium for my images and is accessible on the home network. The main reason for getting the 750 gb Seagate drives is I am converting all of my negatives over to a digital medium. The TIFF scans run around 135 mb each and the finished jpg's vary from around 8mb to 30 mb each. The secondary reason for the large drives is that they are cheap these days and I don't have a budget. (sort of, I don't go drinking with the boys on Saturday night, so my spouse has no issue with my photo expenditures.)
