After reading the article in Elements magazine volume 4 number 7 on jpeg compatability, I tried it with no success.
I went into the editor, clicked on a jpeg file and opened as camera raw.
I got my image ok but still in full edit.
I have done something wrong I know. Would someone set me on the right path please.
By the way, I have just finished Adobe Photoshop elements 6 Unleash the Hidden Performance. If you have not purchased it yet do so, as it is wonderful with so many helpful details and downloads.

Sounds like you may have already had the file open which then won't work. You need to close the file and then File>Open As, Browse to the Jpeg, Select Camera Raw in the Open As drop down , click on the file and then then click Open. Then it should work.

Sorry but I am very confused. I opened Elements, then under file the only open is for recently opened files. Then I went to full edit to open a new file. This is where I am wrong because I still ended up in full edit.
Could you walk me very simply through this please. It is a shame that under the edit there is not a camera raw to click on.
I feel very stupid at the moment. Graem.

Graem, you have to open the file from Full Edit, not the Organizer.

Go to Photoshop Elements Editor.
Choose File>Open As from the top toolbar.
Choose the file at the top of the dialog and Camera Raw from the dropdown at the bottom
Click OK and the image should open in Camera Raw.

Chuck, I tried evereything you said.
Opened elements, then opened full edit. Next I went to file>open.
Then I clicked on a photo, scrolled down and clicked on camera raw. Lastly clicked on open. The image still came out in full edit.
I know I am doing something wrong, but I thought I was following your instructions correctly. What did I do Wrong?
Thanks.. G

Gentelmen, I do not know what I would do without the wonderful help yo all give. Thanks a lot for helping me with this problem. The help section should be revised to detail how to open correctly.
Many thanks again.
Until next time
