Big Trouble - Lost Artwork and Effects

Hi: Tried to download Graffi's layer styles, as it was rebuilding got a sign "Corrupt". Now have lost all Artwork and Effects. They are still in folders, but dont appear on the PSE5.0 screen. What do I do????? Jean

Hi Jean

Try taking out Graffis styles manually and restart elements. It could have been messed up download or even some weird install hiccup.
I have used Graffi's stuff with no problems for the past few years so I don't think it is something inherently wrong with the files.

I have other Graffi stuff downloaded with no problems. I did send it to the recycle bin and restarted, but same problem. Must have done that four times now, just hoping all will recover. Now what? Jean

When I lost some layer styles in PSE6 after downloading some actions I got everything back by deleting the MediaDatabase file & letting PSE rebuild it. But I don't know if that is just a PSE6 thing.....I'm not 'au fait' with version 5 at all.

Hi Bayla: I was trying to download the transparent text from Graffi. I am sure he will advise me when he sees this. Or someone else who is smart will help. This is a wonderful board. Hubby says I cant download anything else.
Where is the mediadata base file? Jean

Phew - everything is back. Closed PSE5.0 for the umpteenth time, and as it was loading held Shift and everything came back - well not my favourites, but I can rebuild those. Dont know what happened. Oh yes, the Graffi stuff came in, even though I deleted it. My stomach is no longer in knots. Jean

Glad that worked - but I suspect the Graffi stuff won't work. You have to delete several things in several places to get rid of things so just deleting the styles won't necessarily get rid of the thumbnails. I'm sure Graffi will come along and explain what happened and how to reinstall.

And don't worry - it's pretty hard to break Elements and even if you do it can be put back together again :D

You are right, it was another Graffi file that came in, not the one I really wanted. I am too scared to load it again. Besides, my husband would kill me!!! When I stump him I know I am in trouble. Jean

Hi, Jean (sorry for the late reply - busy week at my "real" job)

You can reload the styles with no problems - styles are benign and won't harm anything else on your system.

PSE5 is pretty cool in that you can quickly rebuild the database by just holding the Shift key as soon as you see the white adobe splash screen. Keep holding it until you see a "building artwork and effects" progress bar, and everything should show up where it should be. *Occasionally* you have to take more drastic measures with the database, but 999 times out of 1000, this will fix it up.

Hi Graffi: Isnt it tough when a real job interfers with photoshopping. Retirement is good for something. All is well, your programs came back when I did the shift thing. There is always something new to learn.
