The description (http://www.kelbytraining.com/?page=product&id=110) does not mention Elements but the principals will be the same. There are some things you can't do in Elements that you can do in Photoshop. The Layers course (http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/training_courses/layers.html)by Matt at PET would be a good one if you want to understand layers from the Elements viewpoint.

Hi,
The book was written for Photoshop CS3 (and mostly CS2). Some things will work fine in Elements (Ch 1, 2, 3 - mostly the basics). Chapter 4 is on layers masks and they are simply not in Elements. The type and shape chapters will be different as well. Then there's a whole chapter on smart objects and layers and that one won't work at all with Elements. I'd probably advise against it though. As some one mentioned, I have an online training course on layers. It's actually on Kelby Training's online training website. You could probably pay for one month and get through all of the lessons easily.
Hope this helps.

I don't think it would be a mistake, there would just be a few chapters that would not apply the way it sounds. If you've already ordered it, don't feel like it would be a waste because you will learn a lot and like most here you may eventually upgrade anyway.

Jon-
If you have CS3 already, I don't think you made a mistake at all. As Nancy said, you may decide to give it a whirl one of these days, and if so, you'll be set. Plus, as you've figured, some of the stuff will apply to Elements. Plus, Matt's style is very easy to follow, and if you hit any bumps in the road, folks here will be more than happy to lend a hand.
Also, FWIW, KelbyTraining has some very cool online courses in addition to the Elements one Matt mentioned. If you're in to photography at all, Moose Peterson's courses are just flat out cool, and there are some others on my list after I finish up what I'm currently watching (like anything by Joe McNally).
