Hi Thomas ..

That sounds like lots of fun. Where did you post the time for the chat? I missed it.

I have MSN Messenger, but am wondering how you get the email addresses in order to add people to your contact list ? I am sure that no one wants to post that information here on the forum for all the world to see.

Hi Kathy

Last night was sort of an impromptu trail run. :)
Thomas, Ray and I were all on trying to find a work around for the MSN webchat feature not being available to Mac users, and we sort of fell into messenger.
Then Sherry,Grant and Pauline came along, and Thomas added them.
I think he was pmed by them, or he pmed them, in the forums with email addys.

Grant

He PMed me .... I think that is what they call it.

While I always have MSN open 7/24 but I am not resilient enough to be personally on 7/24 so it was a lucky break.

I thought you were zombie hunting today?

Thanks to you Thomas for organizing this :-)

It sure was nice to speak with all those celebrities (Grant, Pauline, Gary, Sherry and Thomas, the man himself!)

It also gave us the chance to test Messenger for Mac with multiple connections (guests) and it worked just fine.

Well I for one wanted to kick Thomas in the butt! He PM'd me saying Sherry didn't want to be the only 'girl' and I was about to head off to bed! Didn't make it to bed until after midnight and my head was whirling from trying to keep up with the speed reading. I had a lot of fun though, so thanks Thomas!!

One thing I did learn (that I can actually remember from the whirlwind of conversation), Ray, Grant and I are all Capricorns!! No wonder we're so great.

Gary, the zombie walk isn't until 2. I hope Grant has someone to hold his umbrella for him while he takes his pictures!!

I considered putting my msn on here, but I don't want a pile of people getting it. Kathy the best thing to do is PM Thomas to set you up. That way it's kept private. For the most part I will probably have MSN turned off. When I used to have YAHOO messenger I found I didn't get much done when people kept popping up and interupting my work!

Pauline

Did you check the link for the walk? Really cool makeup ideas.

It's not raining down here right now..maybe Grant will get lucky.

Went to a "pumpkin patch" with my sis yesterday. Took some photos of her daughter for her scrapbook... forgot the stupid memeory card in my reader. Had a spare in my bag so I had to redo lots of them.. funny how the spontenaity is gone the second time around
We had to go twice cuz of the rain though..on and off.

Okay, Gary, that was gross! My 16 year old is thrilled though. "hey you can do that to me and Johnny!". Great! Actually I do, do face painting, but haven't done any of this gory stuff. Once in Nobleton the ambulance people had a booth set up and one woman was making fake injuries. It was facinating watching her. She used chicken bones as the bones sticking out of a persons hand and the blood looked pretty real. I can't seem to get into the swing of things for Halloween and my sister in law is having a party next weekend.

Kathy

Thanks for the info guys. I will PM Thomas.

Pauline ...... I am like you when it comes to Messenger. I only sign on when I want to chat to someone ....... it does seem to irritate some of my contacts .... but I would never get my stuff finished if I left it on all the time :)

And I found that my one friend would be doing it when she was bored at work. Well I wasn't bored. I was busy working and I would even feel guilty that she was being paid to work and was busy on messanger!! It can be way to distracting.

A good idea Ray. I wouldn't know where to begin to help her, since I couldn't even figure out how to add people unless a message popped up!!

Thank you ... I don't even have Messenger and have no idea on how to go about getting it etc ..

You are a little star :)

Mike

Just pm Thomas with your messemger login name/email address thingy and he will have to add you to his list. Then, next week when he has the chat, he has to invite you to the room :)

I think he said last night, there is a limit to the number of people in the room.
Don't now how many names he has already, probably half a dozen or so.

October 23rd, 2005, 04:08 PM
Gary,

Depending when you do it I may not be around anyway due to the time difference...

Ok, I've created the getting started guide I promised :

http://homepage.mac.com/carbmac/Microsoft_Messenger_Guide.pdf

Let me know if there's something not correct in the guide.

It's intended for Mac users, but for Windows users curious about the Mac version, the guide I made is a PDF so that everyone can open it :-)

Ray

It's 7 to 9, Eastern Time (which is -4 GMT)

Ray

MikeH
October 23rd, 2005, 04:24 PM
Ray,

Thanks... we adjust our clocks by one hour next weekend, which should really confuse things...

Mike

Mike,

Not really... first, get there :
http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/

Look closely in the center of the page...

http://homepage.mac.com/carbmac/Safari004.jpg

Then, keep in mind that the chat will take place from 7 to 9 E.T, and that we (I'm in Eastern Time) are 4 hours behind GMT (GMT -4). So, the chat will take place at 15 to 17 hundred hours, GMT. With this page, make the necessary adjustments :-D

It was great fun!!!! But I'm not usually around on Sat nights---so I hope I can play some other times too.

Ray,

OK now I'm confused... if the chat is 7pm to 9pm E.T which is 4 hours behind GMT, then the chat GMT time is 11pm to 1am... At present we are in summer time which is GMT+1, but next weekend we go back to GMT.

Mike

Carbone
October 23rd, 2005, 04:54 PM
Mike,

Chat GMT time is 3 to 5 PM. 7 to 9 local, at GMT -4 is...
7 - 4 = 3
9 - 4 = 5

Times PM.

3 to 5 PM, GMT (or 15 hundred to 17 hundred, GMT still).

I think you current local time is 21 hundred, you're 5 hours ahead of my local time. This puts the chat from midnight to 2 AM, local British Time.

Ray

Carbone
October 23rd, 2005, 04:58 PM
Ok, I get the confusing part, it's my fault.

Chat in GMT time is 7 PM + 4 (not minus, as I wrongfully estimated), because I am behind.

So, chat time in GMT is :

Start : 11 PM
End : 1 AM

my msn was set up with my actual e-mail address and I'm wondering now if I should have set up a hotmail one instead? I guess as long as it's only people that I put on my list I shouldn't end up with problems right?

I don't want to end up with lots of junk mail.

MikeH
October 23rd, 2005, 05:25 PM
Pauline,

My MSN address is my email address also... as you said it's only people that you add to your list, so if any spam comes it's probably from Gary...

Gary

There were about 100 Zombies it was a small but enthusiastic group. I suspect most are of the Goth persuasion and this gives them and excuse to blow off steam. The interesting thing is that it is now well know and many cars were trapper in the mob and the slapped the cars and moaned "Brains ... we want Brains and we what them now" This was all to the delight of children in the cars and to the angst of the parents. When I was asked for my brains I said too late I am a photographer and therefore have blow all my brains on camera equipment.
