PE4 keeps quitting-I've tried everything

I have an iMac. PE4 keeps quitting and these are the things I've done-1. reinstalled PE4. 2. Re-archived my computer.3. Upgraded to 10.4.11.

I'm wondering if I bought PE6 it would solve the problem.

Or-get a whole new computer, lol Mine is 3 yrs. old.

Have you tried deleting the prefs ... they don't get removed when you trash PSE4.

I am running PE4 just fine on my Mac and its around 3 years old too ...

Another thought is how much Ram do you have ... ?

If you haven't already deleted the prefs then try this:

Just close down Elements then hold down The Command, Options and Shift keys. Continue to hold down all three keys until you get a screen asking if you want to delete Settings ... just say Yes. You do have to be quick holding down the keys so if you have problems with it try holding down the keys with one hand before you click on the icon :)

Wendy-which prefs do you mean exactly? I thought I had trashed everything to do with my first PE4 because if I had left even a shred, the reinstallation couldn't be done.

I have 1GB of ram. Is that the problem?

Hi Jane ...

You can do a reinstall of PSE4 on the Mac even if things are left behind ... it doesn't affect the reinstall.

Not quite sure where this set of prefs are ... click on the desktop and do Apple F then search for Elements ...

I suspect that they are in User>Library>Preferences

But holding those three keys down whilst starting up is the easiest way to sort them out.

You Ram sounds fine ..

When did you last repair permissions ?? ... and did you have any Virus software running when you installed PSE4. If so then thatmay have caused the problem.

Wendy, I'm trying another idea. I have an external hard drive with 20,000 photographic images on it. I always keep it running. Perhaps it's too draining on my system. I'm trying using PE4 without the hd on. Keeping my fingers crossed!

An external hard drive shouldn't cause problems .. I have 3 attached to my Mac.

I won't be around for a few days as we are going away ... but will check on the thread when I get back :)
