View Full Version : chaining short projects to make long project

I am a new Premiere Elements v4 user. I had PE v1 and was able to chain multiple short "chapters" into one finished movie with a copy and paste command.
Does anyone know how to do this in PE v4? I would be most happy if you could guide me.
Thank you

You cannot copy and paste between projects in versions 2 and above, you need to export each project - File/Export/Movie - and then import those files into a single, Master, project.
This FAQ will help;

This did work pretty well in v1 but they removed the functionality in v2 and we have not seen it since.

James Fischer,
The technique described by CE has been posted in the threads here before and used successfully by many users with goals similar to yours.
Try it out on a mini project and, if you get into any difficulties, please post for further details.
I try to check the threads daily. Let us know the outcome.

To ATR and Chuck Engels,
Thank you both SO much for your quick replies. It worked!!!
Until today, somehow the Export wouldn't light up and engage. I moved the blue marker to the end of the movie and guess what??? It worked.
I owe you both.

Before you can export you need to highlight/select either a clip in the media panel or the timeline.

Thanks for letting us know how you did. So glad to hear the good news that the procedure resolved the issue.
Just some add on comments to file:
1. In Premiere Elements 4, if you click on Get Media/Files and Folders, browse to the file that you want, and open it, even if you highlight it in that mode of the interface, the File/Export will be faded. You need to make sure that you click on Project so that you are in the Project View of the Media if you go that route. I usually work from the Timeline and make sure the clip is highlighted beforehand.
2. If you have a clip on the Timeline and you just want to convert a portion of it to DV AVI by the File/Export/Movie route, then:
a. Make sure that the tabs in the Work Area Bar (gray area above the Timeline) span the length of the desired clip area. Then, when you go File/Export/Movie, click on the Settings Tab and change the range from Entire Timeline to Work Area Bar, and then continue with the Export process.
You probably do not need 2. right now, but it may come in handy at a future time. Check out my details to make sure that I did not mess up.
Keep up the good work.

Just a quick add on....
Not sure what you meant by "blue marker". I was dazzled by the message "It worked" and just saw that now.

Thanks again, and for the added tips. Now I understand why the export did not work at first.:)
The blue marker is the little timeline marker that shows where the movie is on the timeline. I do not know the technical name for it.I suppose by sliding it I highlighted the clip.
This forum is great! I's so glad it's here. I will not be a pest, and probably won't need it very often, but great to know experts are monitoring it.
