Is there a way for me to take a video and place it on part of a still picture (really a graphic that I made in PE5)? What I would like to do is have the graphic cover 3/4 of the veiwing spce and the video to play in the remaining 1/4. I am trying to do a background for a song, and would need the right had side to be blank (for the words) and the left edge to play/show the video.
I tried to do picture - in - picture, but when I followed the instructions, with the help folder in pe4 the pip did not show.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Pam :p

There may be other ways to achieve your goals, but for now let us figure out why PIP did not work.
Still/Graphic goes on Video Track 1 with start of at 0 time.
Video goes on Video Track 2 with start of clip at 0 time.
This is the part that you may not have done. Select (highlight) the content of Video Track 2. Then, hit Effects/Video/Presets/PIP, and select one of the PIP options, example PIP 40% UL. Click Apply.
To get a decent preview, Render while you are in the Edit Mode by pressing ENTER on the main keyboard. You can use the Timeline Time Stretch Tool to match up the lengths of Track 1 and 2 content.
More details if necessary. Once you get this working and determine if it gives or does not give you what you want, then we can go on to other approaches to obtain what you described.

Pam,
How are you doing getting the PIP effect to work via the Effect/PIP route?
I came across an online book excerpt that you might like to read, dealing with Split-Screen Effect. Although I do not see it credited, I am almost sure that this is a generous online free offering from the authors of the book, namely Chuck Engels and Steve Grisetti.

There are still other ways to getting at the effect that you described, but more for later.

Add on....
I am not sure how that link will open. It may open on the last page of the offering. If it does, just scroll back to page 264 where the "Create a Split-Screen Effect" section starts.

Pam
Thanks for letting us know the outcome. Often there are more than one way to achieve the desired effects. Glad the suggestions helped, but always continue to explore.
Continued success.
