I'm trying backup my catalog (XP, 6.0) at work onto my C drive, It is a 147 gb with 71.2 gb in free space. And PSE won't backup because it says I'm low on disk space! Now what?

I guess the answer depends on how much space your pictures take up. If the total of all of your pictures is close to 71GB, then I can see why it would say you are low on disk space.

But are you really backing up your photos (you didn't really make this clear) from your C: drive to elsewhere on your C: drive? That really doesn't make sense, these are not true backups, because when that drive fails, your originals and backups are all trash. Or are the photos not on your C: drive and you are using the C: drive for backup?

Hi Paige,
I'm not backing up my photos, I'm trying to backup my catalog. But I maynot have enough Ram, I think on the Adobe troubleshooting it says you need 256, I only have 150. (all my photos are on an external hard drive)
I've cleaned out all temp files & recycle bin--I don't really know what else I can get rid of.
I'm getting ready to switch/transfer my files to another computer, so I was trying to get everything in order first.

If you are using the Backup Catalog command in PSE, you are backing up both your catalog and your photos. Is that the command you are using?

RAM is irrelevant to this operation.

Yes, I'm backing up my catalog in PSE. When I went to the Adobe troubleshooting-it says I need at least 256 of ram to back up my catalog.
The Error I'm getting says I'm low on disk space & I need to get rid of some files so there is enough disk space.

If the message says that you don't have enough disk space, then you don't have enough disk space. The message doesn't mention RAM, so RAM is not the problem, and RAM is irrelevant to making backups anyway.

The Backup Catalog command backs up both your photos (every one of them) and the catalog. So once again, I ask you: how much space do your photos take up? If it is 71gig (or more), then PSE is being totally honest in telling you that there isn't enough room. If your photos take up noticeably less than 71meg, then there is some problem. If you just want to back up your catalog and not the photos, then you should do that with Windows tools.

By the way, RAM has units, so it is not 256 that they recommend, it is 256 Megabytes of RAM that they recommend (I'm taking your word here, I haven't seen that recommendation myself). Since you have 1.5 Gigabytes, you have six times as much RAM as they recommend.
