View Full Version : Aligning Images using PSE 5.0

Hi,
I take landscape images. When needed, I'll take multiple images on a tripod when there is a significant difference in lighting brightness between the sky and landscape (I don't always have my neutral density filter with me).
I bracket the images and expose separately for the sky and landscape.
Is there an easy way to align these images in PSE 5.0 so I can
merge both images together using multiple layers?
Thanks!

Photomerge Panorama will do it. Once it opens check Keep as Layers.
But than, if the pictures are taken without any camera movement, they should line up perfectly when using >Select All and then Copy and Paste.

I think the question is not how to stitch images together but how to place one on top of the other exactly.
If this is the case then you can Move one onto the other. If you hold down the Shift key when doing this it will centre one image onto the other.

It's In File>New>Photomerge Panorama although the PSE6 version does a better blending job than the PSE5 and earlier versions. In PSE6 I like to do it with Photomerge Group Shot using the sky as a "group". I often use it on RAW images processed twice, once for the foreground and once for the sky and then Photomerge the two. You can get results like this:

But, like Colin says, if you just want align two layers holding down the shift key will do it and a good way to check is to set the blend mode to Difference and tweak moving the layers until it looks as black as you can get it.

Colin,
That is correct, however, Photomerge will do a fine job doing exactly that. :)

I wouldn't have thought of using that - thanks for the tip, folks
