I have another question. I want to create a blank slide just for text but I can't figure out how to do that. What I've been doing is creating a blank slide in Photo Shop and then sending it to Premiere Elements but I figure there's got to be a better way.

You can add a colored Matte in Premiere Elements, it is different depending on the version. There is a version 2 tutorial here
http://muvipix.com/products.php?page=3&maincat_id=7&subcat_id=10
"tu-( Elements #5 ) Adding Special Clips" That will show you how to do it and then you can easily figure it out in other versions ;)

You say that you want to create a blank slide for Text.

Where is this text going to go. Is it going to be running across the video as it is plays (still vs roll or crawl), or is it intended as an insert between Timeline content.

Are you aware of the template and non template Titles/Text that you can create within Premiere Elements Titler?

If you created text in the titler with its transparent background and you want to have a colored background and you do want to utilize the Color Matte under New Items, remember the Title/Text goes on a video track above the video track where the Color Matte is placed.

Just give me more details of what you want, I will give you some of it works for me comments.

Hi. My intent is to add just text to a slide to tell a story. For example, I wanted a blank slide that I would add text to to say "When John was young" - I just want a black background with no template.

Check out the two tutorials on Rolling Titles here
http://muvipix.com/products.php?page=4&maincat_id=7&subcat_id=10
They are free and will teach you much about creating titles, you can have them roll or not by changing a simple setting. These will help you create a title with a plain black background and white text, it is very easy to make adjustments after you learn the basics :)

Karen,

I have seen the two video tutorials on Titles that Chuck Engels suggested, and they are very good. I am almost certain that they were done with Premiere Elements 3. He gave you the link for viewing them. BUT, I cannot get anywhere by hitting the Free Button, followed by Download. The best that I can do is hit the View button instead in order to be able to watch these tutorials. Do not be discouraged, they download very slowly (even with DSL), but it worth the wait.

Also check out the golden oldie contributed by fFry.

I believe it was done with Premiere Elements 1, but it has some classical titling tips in it. The other tip is to place your Timeline indicator (CTI) at the start of the position of where the Title is to go BEFORE you enter the Titler Interface. When your create your title and click done, your title will be placed in the Media Panel as well as automatically placed on the Timeline at the site of the CTI (this is true of versions 3 and 4, but not 2 where you have to drag the title from the Media Panel to the Timeline yourself)

I will be watching if you have any further questions.
