kitt car laser effect

hi everybody

I am looking to achieve this sort of effect to text, or shape or along a line I draw.

much like the chasing light on the front of kitt

bright at one end and fading out behind

either as a line of leds, or perhaps even well like the other image I am showing writing your name by waving a glow stick really fast

This might help a bit, it's "how to make a lightsaber" http://www.bluesfear.com/tutorials/Lightsaber.phpI've used this a couple of times. I'm sure there are easier ways but this will give you a grasp of a great technique:D
