Hi,
I have a photo of the Planet Hollywood restaurant in Orlando Florida,& I would like to alter the sign which reads "Planet Hollywood" to "Planet Howood".
I am a complete newcomer to PS Elements 6 so any advice would be apreciated.
Thanks

Without seeing the photo I am not sure but here's an idea off the top of my head. Duplicate the image, clone out the text altogether, insert new text over the area you want.

To clone: Select the clone tool, click on an area the same as the background of the text while holding down the alt key. You should then be able to start 'painting' over the text. Alt click as many time as needed to keep within the right colour range while painting over the text.

Hope this helps a bit. If you are a complete beginner it may be just a lot of hot air so I apologize in advance.

Hi ...

... and welcome to the Village :)

Another thought is create a new layer Layer>New Layer
Then using one of the selection tools make a selection the same shape as the inside of the sign.
Fill it with a similar colour to the sign background
Then just do next text with the text tool :)

Sometimes the spot healing brush will work well to remove small text, one letter at a time. Set it to proximity match. This tool is a modified clone tool as I see it.

I found a Planet Hollywood sign online. Not sure if your photo is like this sign or not, but this is how I edited it.

Duplicated the background layer with Ctrl-J. This layer becomes Layer 1. Turned off the visibility of the original background layer by clicking on the Eye of the background layer.

On Layer 1, used the Polygonal Lasso tool to select around the "Hollywood" close to its edges and copied it to a new layer with Ctrl-J. This layer becomes Layer 2.

On Layer 1, used the Clone tool to clone over the "Hollywood," using samples from nearby background colors.

On Layer 2, selected around the "WOOD" with the Lasso tool, cut it with Ctrl-X, then pasted it to its own layer with Ctrl-V.

Back on Layer 2, selected the LLY and deleted it.

Back to WOOD layer, used the Move tool to move and rotate it into position beside the HO. When it looked good, merged it with Ctrl-E to make HOWOOD all on one layer.

On the HOWOOD layer, selected the inside of each letter and deleted it so the background would show through. This should leave nothing on this layer except the letters with transparency around them.

Used the Move tool to position the HOWOOD on the background where it looked best.
