I'm using PSE4 for MAC. I have an IntelI Mac with 1 gig of ram. Every time I try to use the zigzag filter, it crashes. No other programs are open. Has anyone else had this problem and how did you fix it?

I'm trying to follow the lesson 6 on the ripple effect from the book How to Cheat in Photoshop Elements 6

Hi Carol ...

I got this book the other day and I love it ... it has some facinating things in it :) and the effect in this section really is a great one.

The filter should work just fine so I am not sure why it is crashing Elements, its working OK on mine. What size and resolution of image did you use .. ?

Hi Carol,

I'm not sure why it would be crashing, either. Have you tried using the filter on different images, just as a test? It could be a settings problem with Elements. If you hold Cmd, Opt & Shift when launching Elements it will ask you if you want to clear the settings. This takes it back to its defaults (as it was when you first installed it) so you'll lose any changes you made to palette locations, preferences, etc. so do use it with caution. If that doesn't work, you may have to try reinstalling the program.

It crashed on several (many) different pictures, sizes, etc. After trying a bunch of things, I finally got it to work. I'm not even sure which of the things I tried helped. Thanks for the suggestions. I'll keep that one in mind for resetting Elements.

Does anyone else besides me have trouble reading the settings in the book when they show the layers palette? The gray on gray is very difficult, to impossible to read. It's just too small and not enough contrast.

Hi Carol ...

Sadly this is because the new gray on gray interface doesn't show up well in screen shots ... :( .. so I am afraid that most PSE6 books will have this problem.

Carol,

Unfortunately, as Wendy says, the colour scheme of PSE6 is a problem when printed. Because of the layout, we had to make the screenshots fairly small in some instances. We're hoping that Adobe will alter the interface for the next version, even if it's just to make the text and sliders a little more contrasted.

Glad you sorted the original problem.
