I'm using PSE 4.0 and am trying to print some photos that are exactly 4x4". They will be printed on printable fabric and used in a quilt, so I need them to print exactly 4x4". I've tried cropping them to 4x4" - when I print them, they're closer to 5". Have tried resizing both the image and the canvas with no luck.

Clarification - I'm moving the photos onto an 8 1/2 x 11 transparent background so I can print multiple 4x4 photos at the same time.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

Assuming you are printing on standard size 8-1/2 x 11 fabric sheets my approach would be:

Make a document that is equal to or less than the printable area of my printer (I usually choose 8x10 for convenience) and set the resolution to 300--a good printing resolution.

Copy and paste my images to the document and resize them to 4x4.

Print and cut out the images.

I don't know why you are getting different sizes. What paper size, printing options, etc. are you using? What is the pixel size of your images?

It's probably a resolution problem. To get exactly 4x4 you need to crop and then change the resolution of the cropped image to be exactly the same as the bachground you're moving it onto. (Image>Resize and change the resolution to match with resample checked or you can crop to 4x4 with the resolution you need in the resolution box. That should get you close but you are somewhat at the mercy of the printer - some printers may not get the dimensions exactly right but hopefully yours will get it close enough.
