text tool problems

I'm having problems using the text tool effectively. After some struggling, I did manage to put some text on to a photo and saved it. When I later looked at it I wanted to make a minor adjustment (put a capital letter where there was a lower case one.) I opened the document, but could not seem to make that one small change. I tried everything I could think of including highlighting the text layer, but all to no avail. Is the text tool really that complicated or am I just getting too old for this?

Had you saved the file as a pdf or tiff file? If you have save it as a jpeg you can't get access to individual layers later.
