When you select multiple RAW images to edit in PSE6 you get a somewhat different version of the RAW editor with a sidebar with all the images you've chosen to edit. You can select all of them and apply the same edits to all of them and/or tweak each of them individually. There are a couple of icons that appear along with the star rating (if you've used one in the Organizer). One I understand - it means you've applied a crop but the other one is a mystery to me. Anyone know what it means? Here's what I'm looking at:

Tony, it signifies that you've made a change to one or more of the sliders on the image selected.

Chuck: Thanks - I couldn't figure it out but now you've told me what it is it looks just it ought to look :D. Have to admit that I only just figured out how to get to that screen and it is a very useful one for editing multiple RAW files. I was doing them one at a time before :o. My RAW workflow has just taken a big leap forward. Maybe one of these days I'll step up to Lightroom. I need something to match that nice dark PSE6 background that I like and no one else seems to.

BTW for anyone who wondered this only works with PSE6. Tried it with PSE5 and ACR4.3.1 and you don't get the multiple image sidebar.

Tony, I noticed that you also have to do it from Open, not Open As. I wasn't able to select multiple photos from the Open As dialog, whereas it can be done via Open. Would that preclude using the multiple image routine from non-Raw images?

Chuck: You're right. I hadn't noticed that and I think it would mean you couldn't edit multiple jpeg images in the RAW editor unless someone can figure a way round that. I suspect the reason it only works in PSE6 is because of the new database they are using (same one as in Lightroom)

I see that this is an older thread, but in ACR is there a way to open Multiple pictures using PE5?

Or, how do you process Multiple Pictures Using PE5?

I am now finished with shooting the Rehearsals including the Dress and I now have a lot of images to process and I was wondering if there is an easier way then just single shots at a time?

Thanks in advance?

Question: I would like to post some of the Portraits that I had taken from this Photo Shoot. What Catagory should I post them in??

Mark: I don't think it can be done in PSE5. I was quite surprised that I could do it in PSE6 - it's one of those unadvertised features that I discovered by accident. Quite handy as you can apply the same edits to a bunch of RAW images at the same time.

Nuts, I have about 300 and I'm sure its closer to 400 shots from this event.

Oh, well. I guess thats why Lightroom is out there. I wish CS2 or 3 was cheaper. Heehee

Mark,
If you have got a lot of raw files to edit in ACR, and want to apply the same editing corrections, there may be a way to do it with this method:
- 1) copy the files needing the same treatment in different folders, say : outside, inside, flash...
- 2) Edit in ACR the first shot of each batch. This will create a xml file saving your edits. Be sure to save in 8 bits! (Use save, not open). Check that the default conversion choice is 'Previous conversion'. (Very small icon on the right of the basic and detail tabs).
- 3) Use file, process multiple files to process the folder. Elements will keep the previous settings for each conversion. Choose the appropriate jpeg conversion factor.
- 4) Go to the next folder and start again at step 2.

I must say that now, I prefer to use ACDSee Pro 2 for batch raw conversion and organizing, and here in Europe, it cost me € 70 to upgrade from and old ACR version, whereas Lightroom is more than € 300!

Michel - with the Euro at an all-time high against the US$, you should be getting Lightroom for a very good price. Sounds like Adobe hasn't heard about the dollar's slide....:mad:

I just checked today's prices here:

PSSE6 = € 99.27
CS3 = € 1075.20
Lightroom = € 297,80

Low-cost Paris New York round trip next week : € 980
