I'm a new user to Photoshop Elements 6. Have tried to make a cd slideshow of my recent vacation but... while the pictures on the computer and in Photoshop are clear and sharp, they are much less than that on the CD slideshow.

How do I correct this???

What you are creating in Photoshop Elements is a VCD (your slideshow in VCD format on a CD). This is considered a lesser quality product, and the higher quality DVD-VIDEO is recommended.

But, to obtain your slideshow in DVD-VIDEO format on a DVD disc, you need additional software. There are tons and tons of threads on this issue, so check out the Search here.

Overview of some choices, given that you already have Photoshop Elements 6:

Integrate With Premiere Elements 4, using the Send to Premiere Elements command in Photoshop Elements 6 to send your slideshow as is (non wmv route) to Premiere Elements 4 to be generated in the DVD-VIDEO.

If you have Nero (Nero Vision Application with DVD-VIDEO plug-in) you could try to get away with:
Creating your slideshow in Photoshop Elements 6
Output using Save As File (Movie, .wmv)
Then take that .wmv with the NTSC DVD profile) and create your DVD-VIDEO with Nero.

Previews are useful, but, especially in Premiere Elements 4, base quality decisions on what your slideshow looks like on disc with TV playback. Also, make sure the pixel dimensions of your stills doe not exceed 1000 x 750 pixels.

Thanks ATR. So did I purchase the wrong software package? PE 4 is another $100! I didn't have that problem with my little Photoshop Album program, but unfurtunately, I do now. It probably uses the VCD format in PE 6 rather than the program it came with. I thought I was upgrading to a better package.

I also am pretty sure that pixels exceeded the 1000 x750. Could that have been a significant factor? It takes forever to create the slideshow and I have a lot of pictures.

Hi,
To speed up your resizing, try the process multiple files command. You will need to have a selected source to access existing images and destination source to take the resized images. Some people resize all 'portrait' images in one batch and 'landscape' images in another.

To get to the process multiple files, open the editor and go to Find>Process Multiple Files and follow the instructions there.

Good luck with your project! Let us know how it turns out.
