Need help with saving scrapbook pg in PSE4

I am having a problem with saving my scrapbook pages. Sometimes, I do it correctly and end up with a PSD file with the camera icon. Other times, I end up with an icon that looks like a piece of white paper with the upper right corner turned back and two rows of 3 little blocks (I can't tell what they are). When this happens, then PSE will not open the file....gives me a prompt saying "cannot open because it is the wrong type of file"

I cannot figure out what I am doing differently to end up saving the wrong type of file. Would appreciate any help to get this straightend out. Also, once it is saved in the wrong way, is there any way to retrieve the file?

Try renaming your file and manually typing .psd at the end. I have this problem sometimes and renaming as this works every time.
