If you want a quick lightweight viewer for your LR Catalog take a look at this.

It's very basic but quick. It's not colour managed so image views may be a little off.

Colin,
Do you think I could install that on my laptop and view images that have been imported to LR on another computer? The laptop has access to the drives on which the images are housed.
Edit: I downloaded it and gave it a try. Didn't seem to open the lrcat files. I wonder why?

Julie....
Yes you can do that as that was one of the intents of the program. To be able to let other folks who don't have LR to view a catalog.
Might be an obvious question but did you download the right version - PC or Mac?

Colin, I will have to take another look then. I'm sure I downloaded the right version. When I click 'open' in the viewer, it brings up the file selector, I can navigate to where my images are stored, but it won't open them. It must be that the lrcat files are stored elsewhere? I'll have to figure out where that is. :o

Julie.....
When I thought about it, it was bit of a dumb suggestion that you may have the wrong version because it simply wouldn't install.
You have to find where your catalog is not your images. So you need to look for a file called - Lightroom Database.lrcat - and open that. I moved mine from the default location and I can't remember where that was.

I think that's what I did too. Have to dig around for it now...

Open Lightroom, go to File > Catalog Settings > General. It will show you the location of the .lrcat file. Click the Show button and it will even pop open Windows Explorer/Finder window with the folder selected.

Thank you, Rob. That's easy.
I think that's the folder that I was trying to get this LRViewer to open the lrcat files from. I'm not on my laptop now, so I'll have to try tomorrow.
Thanks for chiming in here! :)

Happy to help. :)
Just keep in mind that LRViewer is dependent upon the previews having been rendered by Lightroom. It simply shows you the previews that are stored in Lightroom's preview cache.
