Hi,
I am using PSE6.0 and trying to create a 40x60cm canvas at 300 ppi.
I want to have a background with a canvas-structure and a big letter where a picture "shines through".
When making a 10x15cm sample I succeeded, although the text tool already gave some problems.
Now on a (much) bigger size I have more problems with the text tool.
When the font size goes over 490 points the text disappears when it is not selected anymore.
490 points seems to be the biggest font size (in my case I use Arial Black - bold).
A font size of 1296 seems to be the absolute size, as it defaults to this when I try to use a font size bigger than 1296.
Did anyone encounter this same problem ?
Is there a solution for this ?
Is there another way to achief this (I think a need a font with fontsize 1400) ?
Greetings,

Hi and welcome to the forum.
You can try this.... Make the font size the maximum and type the letter. Then select the Move tool and press Ctrl-T. This should give you a box with square "handles" around the letter. Touch a corner handle until the cursor changes to a line with an arrow on each end. Depress the left mouse button and drag outward to enlarge the letter even more until it gets the size you want.

Diana,
Thanks for your reply.
Your suggestion works great when the canvas is not that big and the font size is within reason.
Learned something.
But, once I use a big canvas and a big font size, the letter disappears when I drag it beyond a certain size.
In earlier versions the text was handled like a shape and you could modify it like any other object, but in 6.0 this is different (don't know exactly in which version it changed).
Perhaps you can try following:
Open a new canvas with the following parameters (I use a German version so I might make a translation mistake here):
Width: 40 cm
Height: 60 cm
Resolution: 300 dpi
Foreground color black, background color white.
Then activate the Text tool and choose Arial Black - 400 pt - bold.
Type a letter of your choice, for example U.
In my case the letter U is present now.
Now do your trick or select the letter and increase the font size.
In my case if the font size exceeds 490 pt the letter U is gone.
I am interested to know if you see the same thing as I do, that is: that you do not see the same thing like I also do not see :-)

Erik,
Is this what you wish to do. I made the letter as large as possible, then right clicked on the text layer, clicked simplify. This makes the text a regular layer.
Then using Control T I enlarged.
Put a photo above it and did Control G to make a clipping mask.

Sorry, I can't test that for you, Erik, I have version 5.0 and it works fine the way I describe, even on a huge canvas. The more I hear about 6.0, the less I want to upgrade. Hopefully someone with 6.0 will be along to give you a reply.

Strange - I just tried it in PSE6 and it works just the same as PSE5. The max size is 1296 points (or you can also type the value in cm which is easier sometimes but it will still default to the maximum). But you can then use the move tool to increase the size beyond 1296 points. No sign of it disappearing when I just tried it.

Kev, Tony,
Simplify the text layer, that's the trick !
Don't know what it does, but it works for me.
Thanks a lot for your help.
