I downloaded some free vignette actions from Graffi's website and they didn't come with png or xml files. They only came with atn files. I was wondering if they will show up in pse6 if just the atn files are installed. I'm running windows XP.

They will show up as blank thumbnails, when you hover over them you can see what they are & apply them. If you're interested in writing .xml files for them then take a look at THIS POST (http://www.elementsvillage.com/forums/showpost.php?p=321694&postcount=4).

you can also click the "Show Names" option from the palette extras menu -I posted a little video here (http://www.graficalicus.com/wp/archives/396) on how to do that

after you've installed an action and have seen what it does, can you delete it if you don't really like it so it doesn't bog up the program? If so, do you simply delete the atn & png icons in the phto effects folder and then get rid of the xml icon in the metadata folder?

Hi ...
Once you have done that you will need to rebuild the database ..
Delete the Mediadatabase.db3 (or rename it to MediadatabaseOLD.db3)
You will find it at ... C :Documents & Setting\All Users|Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\6.0\Locale\ en-US or your own localeS and restart Elements ... the Mediadatabase.db3 will rebuild but you may have to wait a while for it to do so
Vista is C:\ProgramData\Adobe\ etc

Sorry to hijack the thread....I've installed some .atn files using Graffi's Add-o-Matic (life-saver!!) but now I don't know where in PSE 6 (Windows) to trigger them? They don't show up in any of the effects menus where I could see....

They should be in the 'added effects' subcategory.
If you restart PSE6 they should be there. If not, you may have to delete the mediadatabase.db3 file which will be automatically recreated.

Actually, in Elements 6, you can just right-click the thumb in the palette and choose "Delete". No need to mess with the database at all.
