Congratulations !!!! And Welcome to the PowerMac group (dual pro 1.8Ghz here)

You're going to love that 20" screen. So much space, you wont' believe how much stuff you can fit in there :-D

I remember when I ordered mine, it took 10 days for delievery... Those were the longest 10 days of my life :) I also got it as a present (from me to I with love.. hehe!)

shnupita,

Is this your first Mac ? If so, I would recommend Mac OS X The Missing Manual (Tiger edition), and Scott Kelby's Tiger Killer Tips. Both books while your computer is being delivered. That's what I did, and the time was well spent.

Im jealous, I wish I was getting a new mac too. My ibook is only a year old. I have at least another year or 2 on this computer. Then it is either a powerbook or imac for sure.

Congratulations and enjoy your new mac!!!

I'm only a little bit tempted to switch to Mac. :D
At work (photo studio, for those who don't know) I'm usually on the G5 which really flies, occasionally I get bumped "down" to the G4 which just crawls.....
I was informed by my boss this week that he's decided to get on the list for the newest thing shipping next month maybe? (Quad-somthing or other.) And it will be "mine"!!!!

Aren't new toys awesome!?

I just had a thought......I wonder if he thinks I work too slowly and I need "the quad" to try to make up some speed.......

I think he values your time much more than the others... see this as a sign of good appreciation :)

Thanks Ray. :) Nice try anyway. Since he and I are the only two on computers I still think he figures he can get as much done on the G5 in the same amount of time it will take me on the the Quad. :))

The G4 will replace the "doorstop" now used for printing invoices and labels that the post production person (framer) gets to use. And I think the "doorstop" will move on to the 6 month old daughter for Keyboard banging. :)

Kerri ...

No !! he must rate you to let you have the brand new toy :) ... Oh I looked at the spec of them it should be totally wonderful.

How is the job going ... are you still liking it?

Yep, still liking it! But my "inbox" seems to be piling up faster than I can get things done. (Weddings take so much longer than senior pix and family pix since it involves mor pix, contact sheets and making the video montage)

Plus there's the answering of phones and handing out of finished projects and taking in of orders with frames to pick out....... No wonder I can't keep up with the Photoshop end!

Wonder if I could train the Quad to answer the phone? ;)

Kerri ...

Sounds like you are so busy ... one of the problems with being that busy is that you tend to miss new trends and techniques so try to take a little time out to look around :) ... well if you can !!

Do you do much in the way of special effects or is it mainly straight from the camera images ??

Wendy

Wellllll, I barely have time for special effects with removing eye bags and acne! :) I spend all my time with the clone tool.

I do get to turn some senior pix b&w or sepia, and we have an action for softening some pix called "The Move" . And some spot color when there's a good place for it.
I haven't asked if I'm allowed to add any of the senior's names onto their pictures or anything. But I better get through the pile faster before I ask for extras. :) I wish I could find some time to look through some of the old senior pix to see what the gal before me had done.
(In fact, she did do a scratchy looking black border around one guy's proof pix that the mother just now has ordered so now I have to try and recreate it because the external drive with the older pix crashed.)

I don't know if or when I'll ever get to design the layout for a "flush mount" wedding album. (aka Coffee table book)

So there.....that's what I do! :D

Hey Kerri ...

... but at least you are getting paid for doing it :)

and it does sound interesting !!. You will get quicker with time so don't worry about that ... and you are talking like a pro nowadays :)

Yay !!! You're gonna love the book, and don't forget to visit the companion website (because there is no CD with the book, the goodies are on the web).

And I'm here to help, if you need anything. I'm not a super user, but sometimes, I do get bright ideas :-D
