Photo Browser

I absolutely hate the "Organizer" feature in Elements 4.0 and won't use it. Elements 3.0 allowed users to ingore the "Organizer" feature and to access files through a "Photo Browser" option located in the File menu.

Elements 4.0 eliminates this "Photo Browser" option. Is there a plug-in available somewhere that will restore, or add, the "Photo Browser" feature to Elements 4.0?

I'd very much like to purchase and use 4.0 -- but won't do so without "Photo Browser".

I'm afraid that there doesn't seem to be a workaround for this one ... well we haven't heard of one yet.

You're talking about the File Browser right..? As far as I know the File Browser has been removed, so I doubt it can be restored. I haven't seen a plug-in yet either.

There are quite a few users who are disappointed with the loss of the File Browser in PSE4. You can use the Organizer in "view by Folder location" mode, which sort of gives the same result... and you don't have to use the other functionality of Organizer.

If you have edited a photo, and not "tagged" it, the photo won't be shown in the "Folder Location". So you see only a blank frame with no photo. Then you have to re-link (somehow) to the edited photo.

All this is a far cry from the simplicity and directness offered by "Browser".

Adobe (or some aftermarket software wizard) would endear themselves to me if they would offer a plug-in that would restore "Browser" to the Edit portion of Elements.

And I'd be more than willing to pay extra for it!

I don't quite follow this... if you select a photo in the "Folder Location" view, go to Standard Edit, do any editing and then save it under a different name (with the "Include in the Organizer" box checked)... the Catalog is updated immediately so the photo will appear in the Folder Location. If you leave the photo open in Editor you'll have the red "Edit In Progress" band across the new image.

Tagging has no affect on this...

If you use the Thumbnail view of the File / Open dialog (Windows), you'll see miniatures of your images. I know, it's far from the file browser, but I believe it can be useful in a way

Actually, it's fairly easy, VPC is fully drag and drop. You can download an EXE (a Windows program) under Mac, then drag and drop it onto the VPC.

I only took a handfull of images to put into VPC for the purpose of illustrating my example. It's a no-go for anything graphically speaking.

As I told you before... install an anti-virus, and make sure your Mac OS's Firewall is on before you start Windows XP. It takes 4 minutes for a Windows machine to be infected by the 'net nowadays. It won't damage your Mac OS, it will destroy your Windows and possibly replicate itself and perhaps try to infect other computers on the net.
