I have created custom slideshows with Photoshop Elements 3 with music and naration. The slideshows work perfectly but the resolution of some slides has dropped off markedly even though the orginals have perfect resolution. How can I rectify this problem?

Hi John,
Welcome to the forums...
How are you viewing the slide show?

Mike:
I have the resolution loss (some slides only) when I view the full screen preview in photoshop Elements Slide Show Editor and when I view the *.wmv version I saved for viewing in Windows Media.
Wendy:
I had already tried the remedies you referenced.
Thank you both for your interest - I look forward to your further suggestions.

"I have the resolution loss (some slides only) when I view the full screen preview in photoshop Elements Slide Show Editor and when I view the *.wmv version I saved for viewing in Windows Media."
In PSE3 the poor looking Full Screen preview is identified as a problem in an Adobe knowledgebase article. I make the slide show creation window larger to increase the size of the preview but do not stretch the Preview t o full screen.
The some slides only is a bit difficult to analyze: it seems like the photos that have more detail might look worse when actually the resolution of all of the photos are the same.
What Output Quality are you specifying for the WMV file?

Thank you for your response.
I save slideshows to Windows Media in "High Quality." Recently, I have created slideshows in PE3 with each photo on "letter size" and this has significantly minimized the resolution problem.

John,
I am not sure what you mean by "letter" size; but since you have found something that works for you that is good.
In PSE3, the WMV quality level of PROOF acutally has less compression and therefore should have potentially better photo quality.
In PSE4, the terminology for the quality level on WMV files appears to be different - so if you have v4 do check the specifics for the highest quality.

Barb:
I have just saved two of my earlier slideshows to "Proof" WMV files as you suggested. There is a slight resolution improvement and of course the files are 50+% larger. Thanks for the insight!
I have been thinking about getting PE4. The PhotoShop web site indicates some changes from V3 but I'm not clear if the upgrade would be worthwhile. Any comments on this?

Whether the version 4 purchase is worthwhile for people who currently have version 3 is a difficult question to answer.
I purchased and recently installed version 4, but I have not yet used any of the slide show enhancements. My reason for purchasing v4 is that I wanted the fixes to the Version Set problems/bugs in v3.
Considerations for using v4 that I can identify are:
- Plugins and add ons from v3 may not run, so check on any that are important to you
- the Editor File Browser has been removed in v4. It depends on your workflow how important this is to you. Seems like people who are shooting RAW are having problems with an Organizer based workflow.
- the Organizer code in v4 is more stable.
(Of course I would never imply that everyone's problems are fixed.)
- I am not really sure yet about the benefits of the new editing functions; I am waiting until some of the books are published with additional guidance on how to effectively use these new functions.

Thanks Barb!
I use the Editor extensively and do not find the Organizer useful. It sounds as if I would be better off staying with PE3.
