I understand that all editing has to be done prior to adding a photo to a slide show or photo gallery - do you have to save the photos to the web and make them smaller before putting them in the photo gallery to post on a website?

If I understand you properly, you do not need to specify "Save for Web" before putting a photo into a creation. Save the edited photo normally. When you use PSE to make a creation and then use PSE to post it to a website, all the conversions are done for you automatically.

Although Paige is right Elements will automate a lot of the resizing processes but I do prefer to do it myself before making slideshows etc. Several reasons. Many times you will want to crop it yourself because the Aspect Ratio of the slideshow/gallery is different from the original image and, if you're planning to make a DVD of the slide show to show on a TV then you need to leave extra room to allow for the edges that won't show on most TV's. Also I prefer to resize the pixel dimensions myself and then sharpen as I think that does a better job than the automated processes. Does take more time but the results are often worth it and if you prepare the image ahead of time the creation processes will run quicker as they have less processing to do and you have much more control of the end result.
