Good morning all,
This is my first post to any of the forums on this site but I have been reading everything for about a week.
Those chat times are "Central Time" where? :? I am in Western Australia and need to be able to convert these times to my own time zone.
Thank you
Wendy

Hi Karen ...
... and welcome to the forum :)
I'm in the UK so it confuses me too ... Central time seems to be GMT -5 hours. Does that help ??

Hi Karen
Welcome to the forums.
I'm guessing U.S. .. Thats where Thomas lives, but I didn't think he was in Central time :)
Heck I havent adjusted for daylight savings time and it's almost time to switch back.

Central Time is GMT - 6 (and keep in mind we're about to change the time in a few weeks).

On of the best ways of working out the time differences is to ask someone to type the time into the body of their message ... then you can compare it to the time of the message itself (which should show in your own time zone ... well it does if you set it up in your profile)
So here goes ... in the UK it is now 23.48 ..:)

Apparently, I made a mistake and EST is GMT - 4, so CST is GMT - 5.
Sorry for the confusion. I should stick to what I know best :-D
It's 11h PM GMT, now, right ? In Montréal and Toronto, it's 7h04 (so it is in New-York, Florida, and some other place south I can't think of!)

Wendy Since we have switched to eastern time now since its 1 oclock in the morning there its 8 oclock PM here 5 hour time difference
so if we did it from 8 till 10 pm your time, eastern time would be 3 till 5 pm do you want to do that or if you cant do that tell me!

Thomas ...
I'm usually online a little later than that ... around 11pm to 1.30 am that is currently GMT +1 hour (well until the 30th October ... then we are back to GMT)
Because you all ask question so late into the evening I seem to end up working the night shift :)

The switch from daylight savings to standard time in the US is October 30 (I think). Friday will be here fast enough. I have a doctors appointment at 1015 (grumble grumble).

Hello Everyone,
Thanks for the welcome.
I think I am more confused than ever now!! We are GMT+8 hours (without taking into account daylight saving in the UK). We do not have daylight saving on the west coast of Australia and that means that during the summer we are 3 hours behind the eastern states,
It is 08:20 Friday morning the 21st of October

Very true Gary, What time would it be there for you canada folk if its from 7-9 here in EST....
Thomas

Canada & US share a common zoning for time. EST in US is the same as EST in Canada.
7 to 9 EST is 8 to 10 in St-John's, Charlottetown, Fredericton
7 to 9 EST is 7 to 9 in Montreal, Toronto.
It's 6 to 8 in Regina
It's 5 to 7 in Edmonton, Saskatoon, Calgary
It's 4 to 6 in Vancouver, Victoria
My very limited knownledge of US geography makes it difficult to pinpoint cities for each time zone, sorry..

Thomas,
There's a big problem, at least at my end. MSN Chat doesn't work with either Safari or Internet Explorer (for Mac). Could anyone else with a Mac test it ?
I am able to reach the chat room, but I need to fire up Virtual PC which is a big show stopper for almost every other Mac users around.
If the Mac compatibility is still an issue, maybe should we consider some other form of chat room, such as an IRC channel or Yahoo! group ?

One other thought... using MSN Messenger (version 5 for Mac, or 7 for PC) is maybe a better option. It's been a long time, I wonder if we can be many in the same conversation.. ?
Ray

The thing is with MSN Messenger its a small im message so it would be hard to read the conversation and with irc its a big virus...Sorry if you disagree but I mean I got a virus from it and I will never use it again... Yahoo groups has a chat but all there stuff is adult orentiented and I dont really like it that much... Uhh I dont think so because my mom had a mac and she got in fine..Did you change your browser's security settings to High? Doing so prevents the necessary ActiveX controls from running. To modify your browser's security or cookie settings, see the appropriate Help topic.

Bummer about MSN chat.... any reason that you know of for why it doesn't work?
I'll ask the my kids about Messenger..they are on it all the time :) . I only use it to say hi to my son in University the odd time.
One other thing for people wanting to do the MSN chat thing..you must sign up before you can enter chat. Use the initial link that Thomas has posted to set up an account.

Gary, Thomas,
The problem is that MSN Chat uses ActiveX, and ActiveX have not been ported over on the Mac. Now, Messenger's window can be maximize to fit the screen...
Ok, ask your Mom to join the chat room with Safari on the Mac. Let me know how this proceed, I'll be there on Windows (Virtual PC).

Here's the greeting I get with Safari, under Mac OS X :
http://homepage.mac.com/carbmac/Safari001.jpg
It clearly says Windows 95 or later, and that no UNIX Operating systems is supported (Mac OS is UNIX at its core).

Thomas,
Don't make new plans just for me, I'm usually at the bar or with some friends on Saturday evenings. Though, if you want to have Wendy or the other Mac users, consult with them.
I have Messenger and I have iChat (which is AIM compatible and standard on every Mac). I think Yahoo! Messenger works also for Mac, so does Skype and Mercury and half a dozen more.
