Well that should be fun for all the creative people on this site. I'll enjoy seeing what comes to be. Not sure if I can think of anything, but I give it some thought.

Wendy...

I used to use green, blue and brown eye shadow and black eyebrow pencil for Halloween makeup. Add a little black hair rinse and black lipstick. I made a basic costume of wrap-around skirt, over-tunic and hooded cape, all black, that can be accessorized. With black fishnets and heels, made a vampish vampire.

But at least you are done and the rest of us are still struggling. My best working time is morning. Well I was up late last night, got a late start. Took a long walk with my dog and camera in the woods. We had a good frost last night. Came home with my feet soaked and my pants wet up to the knees!! I didn't even get to the online classes till noon and have not even got to my project yet today!!

My husband even came home early and surprised me!!

Pauline
October 21st, 2005, 06:42 PM
Well Wendy, I don't want to pick on you ..........but..........after midnight IS morning!! It's VERY EARLY morning!

I got a few good pictures. I should walk the dog first and maybe post a couple. There was frost and I got one with the frost sticking out like little white hairs all around the leaf. I love it.

I added 4 pictures to my gallery from this morning. I'm really impressed with the way the first two came out. I wasn't sure how good the frost would turn out and took pictures with and without the flash.

Wendy

I am also trying to learn slowly about the camera settings. I have just been looking at the yellow leaf in my organizer. I took 2 pictures. One with flash and one without. I was told by someone that I should have used flash even though the day was bright to pick up dew drops on the yellow rose picture I took, so I figured the same would be true for the frost. I took pictures with and without flash and the ones with showed the detail better. I also noticed that the shutter speed and exposure times were different. If I start paying more attention to this maybe eventually I'll be able to use the manual settings. I got pictures of moss on trees too, and a puddle with a thin layer of ice on the top.

Frost Frost--what's frost???
From sunny Ca.

Pauline,
The photos with the frost are really good!

Pauline
October 21st, 2005, 09:00 PM
That's okay Sherry you can't make me feel bad. I love the change of seasons!! It was cold but sunny. A perfect walking day.

I can't wait to try out the 'snow' setting on my camera!! That is a big + for me. I take a lot of winter pictures and fall pictures. After watching the levels/histogram video, I opened most of today's pictures and checked them and there were none that needed fixing! I LOVE LOVE LOVE my new camera!!

Pauline,

The frosted leaves are fantastic. As is all of your Gallery. I've been out taking pics of trees and mums using different settings with the same subject. The Exif data is helping me figure out a bit more about F-Stops, focal length, and metering.

Thanks Eva. At least something is working for me. I'm really struggling on the mask project. My 'vision' just isn't turning out how I thought it would!! I should never have stopped for lunch on Thurs. when I was on that roll!!

I was like that with this weeks Challenge image and then suddenly it all came together :)

Wendy  . I've lost my creativity! I think it's broken.

I haven't even tackled this weeks challenge. I don't like to start something new.

My daughter went to her friend's 16th birthday party last and took lots of pictures. I fixed all the red eye and adjusted levels where needed and think I will make her a nice 8 x 10 collage along with the pictures for her gift. I just don't want to start until the mask is finished, but maybe I should move on to something new and come back to it. Trying too hard never works for me and it's become work rather than fun which is probably why I've stalled.

Wendy

Oh I know what you mean ... when we got back from holiday I had 300 images to do and it just became a chore. There was no fun in it at all ... and I was so glad when I finished them :)

Wendy

Pauline
October 22nd, 2005, 05:57 PM
I can tell you one thing. Now that I CAN fix up images, I take more time taking them, because I don't want to HAVE to fix them up! (if that makes sense). My daughter said, no it's okay, leave them the way they are (most had red eye because she didn't use the red eye flash). Now there is now way I was going to leave that. That would be criminal!!

I did one photo of her and her two friends and because the two girls had very bad skin (lovely teen pimples) I applied a gaussian blur lightly and showed her. She didn't like it. She said it looked fake. She likes her friends as is with pimples. LOL Go figure! I left that one in with the original so that the other two girls can decide for themselves.

Now it's back to the collage, I decided to proceed with.

Wendy

Pauline ...

Sometimes they are just so difficult to understand :( ...

By the way how are the classes going?

Wendy

Pauline
October 22nd, 2005, 08:07 PM
 No kidding. You think you are doing them a favour. She also told me not to crop anything because sometimes I take out things she wants. (what like ugly backgrounds!! ) Now one I did take out half a person, but because of the ratio of the pictures it would have been cropped when printed, so I thought it best to crop here so that the right thing was cropped off!

I am enjoying the digital classes. So far I think most of the stuff appears in his books, but for some reason, seeing it on screen and watching helps to re-enforce the learning. I just spent the last 1/2 looking through one of his books again, and a lot of stuff is making more sense. Also I see that I do know a lot more now.

Wendy
October 22nd, 2005, 08:09 PM
Pauline ...

I do know what you mean about knowing more now ... I bought a couple of books (quite a while back) that were way over my head but nowadays I seem to understand most of it :)

Wendy

Pauline
October 22nd, 2005, 08:29 PM
Not only that, but I can sometimes think of a couple different ways of accomplishing what I'm trying to do! I don't find myself struggling every bit of the way any more and that sure is nice. I guess the point is, is that I'm feeling 'comfortable' with elements now, not intimidated by it. I consider myself maybe 10% knowledgeable, because there is still lots to learn.

Wendy
October 23rd, 2005, 05:48 AM
Pauline ...

The knowledge just creeps up on you ... its when you can suddenly see workarounds for Photoshop tutorials that you realise just how much you have learned :)

wendy

Pauline
October 23rd, 2005, 10:36 AM
Well I don't know if I'm at that point yet, since there is still so many things here that I am 'finding'. For instance last night I was just playing with a collage for my daughter's friend from her 16th birthday. I spent a lot of time just exploring the brushes area. I tend to forget what is in there, there are so many options. I just spent the night messing around and trying stuff for fun. The collage turned out cute and maybe today since it's rainy, I'll work on a cd cover for the pictures. I think what I really need is more play time rather than trying so hard to achieve something.

I think it would be great if we had some tutorials using some of the 'hidden/forgotten' type tools that people tend to ignore because they don't know about them.

Speaking of ignoring........I guess that pile of dishes in the sink aren't going to go away.

I agree with you Eva. When things aren't going well, you can just loose yourself in here and forget your troubles!

My dishes did get done. Did them myself. Once in a while it's nice to eat off clean dishes. It drives me crazy to watch my girls take a plate out of the cupboard and EXAMINE it to see if it's clean!! 9 times out of 10, they put it in the sink and take another one!! THEY are the ones that wash dishes!! When I comment that perhaps they should do a better job, I get snapped at that it was the other person that washed the dishes!! And then five minutes later the hand is out for allowance. TEENS!

Ah well it will all work out. Not only do I have my own 3 but my daughter's 19 year old boyfriend who is on his own and never has enough money. He eats a lot of his meals here! A good kid though. (from a disfunctional family---he is broke and his mother borrows what money he had for the week off him)

And our kitties do their own wash. Now if we could talk them into doing their own litterbox...

no kitties in this house Eva. We are dog people. Hate the neighbour's cats that constantly come across the street to do their business AND drive my dog crazy!

I'm not crazy about the neighbourhood cats using my flowerbeds as litterboxes and driving Monster nuts. They are useless, can't even keep the city rabbit and grey squirrel populations in check.

It's a shame there's no routine to reset the preferences file on teens...

Mike

Pauline
October 23rd, 2005, 05:14 PM
I have read and watched a show on tv discussing teens brains and how the section (I believe frontal lobe) where all there decision making, compassion etc. is located is not fully formed. My friend who is taking a phychology course informs me that it is not fully formed until they are 21!! NOW THAT is scary!! All these kids that leave home at 18 and aren't functioning properly as adults!! I can vouch for it too. My daughter's 19 year old boyfriend will buy a part for his car and then starve all week if I don't feed him because he has spent all his money on something that could have waited! - no reasoning power.

Even though I know this it still doesn't make me feel better about the bad/stupid decisions my kids make! Or the fact that they think I am the house slave and doing dishes 3 times a week should be worth $15 a week, and if they don't get $15, I'm RIPPING them off!!! "mom can I borrow $5 to get batteries for my camera (today). Friday, "Mom can I have $20. for dinner and the show, after all you ripped me off last week. "
I think I have fed her boyfriend $15 worth of food today since last night was his first half decent meal in 3 days (here) and he's been making up for the missing meals today!
