View Full Version : Processing Multiple Files Problem

Elements 5.0, Windows Vista

Under FILE I see there is a "Process Multiple Files" function.

I have gone there and tried to process several images... setting it to "Convert To JPEG Medium quality" and processed.

My thought is that, same as "Save To Web", it would have taken a 100k jpg and made it say 40k for the web as it would if you used "Save To Web" and saved with JPEG Med Quality there.

But it doesn't, the file size is near exactly the same after processing. I have hundreds of images to process at a time and I can't possibly do save to web one by one by one.

Any idea what is going on? How to make it work? Maybe it's not supposed to do that?

Suggestions on how to automate a batch of alot of images for save to web compression?

100KB is a rather small size for a JPEG to begin with. You can try JPEG Low Quality or resize the images to smaller pixel dimensions during the same conversion process.

Well that 100k image is made to about 40k using the "save to web" feature... optimized as they say.

Thats what I'm looking for so these images load quickly on our sites.

I don't understand why if set to Med Quality in Save For Web and Process Multiple Files both they don't act the same with the same optimized file.

Hi ..

Try reducing the number of pixels :)

Save for Web and Save As (or saving in with Process Multiple Files) are different functions. One difference is that most times the pixel dimension are changed in Save for Web and the EXIF data are automatically stripped.

Would not saving EXIF data reduce the file size?

Is there a way to batch or script "Save to web"?

I do not know of any. However, if you happen to have a copy of Elements 2 laying around, it uses Save for Web for its Web Gallery creation. The output files could be used for any purpose.
