I lived in Chicago suburbs for 36 years. Four years ago I moved down to middle south Tenneessee. It's so beautiful down here, the weather is beautiful and of course my soul mate is here. I still can't help missing "home" ... after 36 years how could I not? I REALLY miss the food ... Chicago pizza, Chicago style hot dogs, Chicago style Italian Beef. <SIGH>
So, I decided to make myself a birthday present. I can almost smell that Italian Beef with those green peppers.

I'm just across from St. Louis, MO - about 25 miles east. Chicago is a little too far to go for drive-thru. :(

Nancy, I probably pass not too far from your place when I'm on my way to Wood River/Roxana on business. I've enjoyed my visits to the St. Louis area; there are some incredible Italian restaurants on The Hill!

Juli... I know what you mean. I live there too and IMHO, the best hot dogs came from a little place called Tony's across from Wrigley Field. And Greek Town on Halsted. Opa! I'm now in Upper Michigan where there are drive-through pasty places and country supper clubs.:)

And those wonderful hand carved sandwiches at the bar at The Berghoff, and the superb Serbian restaurants, and Little Bucharest for Romanian delicacies and slivovitz, and ...
Geez Eva I was just thinking about Greek Town today ... many fine memories (some quite foggy:D)
Happy birthday Julie --- thanks for waking up so many good flavor memories!!

OMG - you are not even 10 minutes away. Edwardsville is just 6 miles up 143 from Wood River. Vesta is right here too just outside Bethalto. You must go to the refinery? Yes the Hill has some awesome restaurants. There are a lot of second or third generation immigrant families there and their ancestors sure brought some of the best of Italy with them.

Nancy, you're right - the refinery is my usual destination. I let y'all know the next time I'm in town - nothing on the schedule yet but we'll see!
