After being away from PSE 4 for awhile, I've lately had some time to catch up on updates, etc. I'm using a G5 iMac and Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard). I just updated PSE 4 to PSE 4.0.1 and installed the latest Camera Raw Plug In. I also use Bridge 1.0.4 to browse files. I thought that one could open a file from within Bridge directly into Camera Raw. If I try this now, by selecting a RAW image file, and selecting Open with Camera Raw, I get an error message saying, "Unable to use the Camera Raw plug in. It is not compatible with this version of Bridge". I can open the file with PSE, and it opens with Camera Raw within PSE. This is not quite how I remember Bridge and Camera Raw working previously. Have I missed something? Is this correct? Or is my old mind going?? :)

I had a similar problem when I updated acr, It turns out the raw version you need for mac is 4.1(I had updated to 4.3). Once I got the correct acr version in, I quit getting that message. Maybe you did the same.

You're right. I did upgrade to Camera Raw 4.3.1 for the Macintosh. However I get the same message after I downloaded and installed Camera Raw 4.1. From what I've seen on the Adobe websites, I might be having this problem because I have a version of Photoshop CS2, although it's only a trial version on my iMac. It's not critical. I thought I had an understanding of how camera raw, Bridge and PSE all worked together, and now I'm just a little confused. I'll get it all sorted out once I get PSE 6.0 for the Mac later this year. Thanks for the reply and the tip.

Hi Ed ...

If you install 4.3.1 into Photoshop CS2 then it affect Elements too ... thats why I didn't upgrage mine in CS2.

Wendy :)
PS ... I read about it somewhere but by now can't remember where

Thanks for the reply, Wendy. I was sure to follow the instructions for installation of the Camera Raw plug-in for PSE 4.0.1 only and not CS 2. Both versions 4.3.1 and 4.1 gave me the error message when I attempted to open a RAW file using Bridge. I have a trial version of CS 2, however it did not include a Camera Raw plug-in. I have not used CS 2 much at all so I never missed the Camera Raw plug-in before. Like I posted previously, it really is not a big issue. I can still process RAW files within PSE, but I'm sure I was able to make adjustments to RAW files within Bridge by choosing "Open with Camera Raw.." before this upgrade. I still have the older version of camera raw if I decide to go back. I'll end up re-learning everything anyway when I upgrade to PSE 6.0 for the Mac later this year. Thanks again.
