HI THERE,

Wondering if someone can help me. I have a jpeg of a soccer ball. The soccer ball is black and white with a square border around it. I'm wanting to eliminate the border so that I just have a round ball. Can this be done? and if so, can someone tell me how to do it?

Cheers

Depending on the background, various techniques can be applied to extract the ball (Magic Wand, Magnetic Lasso Tool, etc.)

Also, if you plan on using this ball elsewhere, in another software (e.g. PictureIt, PhotoPaint, etc), you're going to have to save this image with a transparent background. TIFF with transparency might be a good option, as well as PNG.

Before you use the Magic wand on this image, make sure you unlock the bottom layer (double click on it and click on Ok), in the layer palette. Otherwise, you will not be able to have transparency in the background.

If you'd like to share this image, one of us could have a better idea of the technique to be used. Many use Pixentral for sharing pictures.

Hi Anna

If you select the soccer ball then you can delete everything else but you will have to save it as a gif tif or psd to keep the background transparent. jpg's puts a background where the transparent should be. Let us know if you would like more information :)

Thanks for your help. Basically, what I'm wanting to do is use the soccer ball in Motion Software. I'm new at Photoshop, so after I've selected the soccer ball using magnetic laso, i don't know what to do next.

The image is within a white square. The soccer ball is black and white. If that helps.

It's okay. I did it. I extracted the soccer ball by selecting it, choosing cut, then putting onto a transparent layer, and saved it as a TIFF.

I've imported it into Motion, and the ball spins around like i wanted it to.

thanks so much for your help.

If you can share you project, I'd love a chance to see the result !!!

Happy 500th!!. I am doing a soccer video in Final Cut Pro, and I needed an introduction before the Menu. I extracted the soccer ball from the picture and in motion, I set some behaviours to make the ball roll from left to right.

I looks good. I don't know how to show you my project. What do I save it as, and how do I get it to you?

Thanks Wendy & Anna :)

Anna,

To share your video, you'll have to export it as a Quicktime Movie, then choosing a very small size and high compression because, as I recall, Motion projects do make some huge videos.

You'll need web space for sharing as well. But if it's too much trouble, that's ok, I'll believe you it looks good :-D
