View Full Version : Applying Multiple Transitions

I am using v1, and waiting for delivery and installation of V2 this week.

Question1.... In v2 is it possible to select a transition and then apply the same transition to multiple clips, or do you insert the chosen transitions one by one. My project is that of "mostly slideshow" I have only one video clip to include and almost 300 already pre-processed images already on the timeline. I am doing a 70th Birthday video and would like to apply the same transition to say 50 images. I want all the forties images, for example, to have same transition--with different entrances applying, then matching transitions to all images in each decade.

I want a different transition for the titles that separate the decades and those are working fine. I have studied your tuts here, and others on the web, and am currently in the online instruction offered by KW. Can't find an answer (maybe asking the question wrong) to whether this is easy to do, not possible, or I should just wait a little longer for both the program and the online class to clarify. (Or maybe I'd be better advised do this in Photo Shop Elements slide show creator and use Premiere for future when I have several video clips and fewer single images?)

Question 2. I have all those 300 prepared images on a CD and am building this movie from it. The CD spins up each time I open the program, appears to load the images. This doesn't seem good to me...should the prepped images have been imported to the My Videos Folder before I began, or is it okay to work with the building of the movie FROM files stored on the CD? (This happened because I am building the entire thing on a different computer from the one that prepared and stored the original images and it didn't appear to me that the images were not "storing" and that what is generated is actually shortcut thumbs to them). Is it too late to import the images, and if not, where should they be saved.

hi :)

Ok heres a way to do question 1.

Import your images...select the ones you want to have the same transition and click create slideshow. Click use default transition in the dialogue box that pops up... it will place the selected images on the timeline with the transition you select.

THEN... select the next group of images you want then click create slideshow again..pick the transition you want and use whatever you set the default to and it will apply that transition to the selected images and place them on the timeline.

The only hitch in this trick is each time you select a new slideshow it thinks its the very begining so it won't apply that transition to the begining of the first image. So you will need to go back and manually apply that one transition between each *slideshow segment* you have created.

You will still be able to put your video in just like you nomally would by importing it and dropping it on the timeline :)
Yeehaw! one down :)

Part 2..

You need to have your files on your computer, not on a disk. You can drop them on your harddrive and then copy them to your project folder and they should link up fine.

Otherwise the project won't be able to find them.

If you have any problems with that let me know and I'll help you work thru it.

Just make sure you store them on the hard drive and then copy into your project folder...Then remove the disc and open your project, it should see them ok, if not..let me know :)

oh btw, I never use PE to create slideshows I use PRE I find it easier and less confining. I think you will be very happy with what you create in PRE !

Thank you so much Tami--I will let you know how I fare.

I am enjoying the class, but was unable to view the Lesson 6 movie correctly. No video capture beginning about half way through on wmv, and quicktime crashed the browser! (-; I'll check tomorrow and see if I can find the origin of the glitch! Audio was fine, and I could tell what he was doing from that, though in wmv.

Eeek! movie 6, I'll let the webteam know there's an issue with it.

Hope you enjoy the rest of them:)

Thank you, Tami, the program re-associated when I moved the image files as you said. I'm going to wait now for the new version to arrive (expect it tomorrow) and I plan to overinstall and have at finishing this project in V2.

Now, when I start a completely new project, will I need to build a new file within that 1.0 project folder, such as 1.01--name a new one 2.0 --or other---, or will a new project deposit its files in the existing 1.0 project folder (This is located, I believe by default, in My Documents >Adobe> Premiere Elements>1.0

There are a dozen or so loose prtl files there, as well as the program generated folders for previews, layouts, styles, autosave, and images (That's where I put the images folder with all the sub folders for this birthday project, and where the successful file recognition went to find the images.

Will PE autogenerate a new project file with the required sub folders when I open, name and save a new one? I might try a quick much smaller project to learn on and then complete this one (by a month from now!) when I know I'm not co-mingling the image files, and have a more comprehensive handle on what I'm doing!

Thanks Tami. I don't want to get started incorrectly in the location of the saved project---or files for it.

Neither the wmv or the quicktime is fixed yet (and I HAVE cleared the caches to accept a new refreshed download to view.) There is no video display after approximately 2 minutes of the video. The traveling progress bar is EXACTLY under the edge of the lower scrollbar in the video when the video fails (audio continues) He says "and now let's move to the selection button"
This is the case on three DIFFERENT computers in different locations, so I don't think the issue is on my end. AND it is happening in both IE and Firefox browsers.

Could you look into it when you have a minute, Tami?

I'll have Jim see about that file monday morning again, thoguht that silly thing was fixed sorry I didn't get to this post till now :(

About your other question..you can shoose were to save your project if you want but it will default to the PRE folder.

When you install 2.0 and go to open the 1.0 file it will see it and you can open it just fine.

Yes it generates everything that you need when you start a new project :)

I think I covered all your questions, if not poke me with the ones I missed
