I need a new printer and saw that Epson had a $100 rebate for the Epson Stylus Photo R1800 which means that one could purchase it for $399 and Cannon has a $50 rebate on their Pixma Pro 9000 so that price would be $450. Does any one have any experience with these ie which one should I buy for general landscape and photographic work.

My newest printer is the Canon Pixma Pro 9000. It replaced an Epson R800 that gave me fits trying to clean the heads. It would always say it was unsuccessful! So I decided to try the Canon this time and bought a wider carriage printer and a pack of assorted 13 x 19 papers to try.

I couldn't believe how fast I used up the ink! But then, 13 x 19 is a lot bigger than what I was printing before. And Canon packages ink cartridges so that you can get a price break on the whole set (Epson does that as well) OR a set of the most used colors (cyan, magenta, and I forget).

I bought some Canon matte paper and some Staples brand 2-sided matte paper. I was printing calendars on the staples paper and had some trouble getting the colors the way I wanted to see them. Then I ran out of the Staples paper and opened the Canon. What a difference! The manufacturer's paper was terrific! No fussing around with the image to get a nice print!

Anyway, I liked the Epson until the color went haywire, and so far the Canon is great. My recommendation would be Canon.

I got the canon 9000 a couple months ago and so far have been very impressed. Have never used an epson.

Well, I got the 1800 for Xmas and I'm in love!! You should see the prints that come out of that machine...they are just awesome! I justed printed out a 13x19 shot of some waterfalls I took at Busch Gardens and the print was just perfect. I also do 12x12 for scrapbooking and it does all sizes no problem.

Both Canon and Epson make photographic quality printers. You can't go wrong with either one. I, personally, use Epson and love the results.

If the R1800 is your choice, try to bargain with them. The Epson Corporation has announced an upgrade to the R1800 called the R1900 and will replace the R1800 so it should be at a higher discount price. I personally was looking at the R1400 and even with its lesser abilities I did like it a lot. Too bad the only reason I didn't buy it was the size of this monster. I have no room to keep a printer of this size... :(
