View Full Version : Portrait classes-day 4-7 eyes

Ok , been practicing with all the eye tutorials---need opinions--
One picture is of course "fixed" the other is the original.
I won't tell you what I think--cause I don't want to sway anybody's thoughts. I feel like I've been staring at the eyes so long I can't see the "whole " picture anymore.
Thanks in advance.

Sherry ....
I think that the lefthand one is the fixed one ... but I think that the eyes are just a little bit too sharp for me .. :)

Remember with any sharpening - eyes in particular - you have to decide what your final output will be. In this case the eyes might be over-sharpened if the photo was going to be used on a web site. But if the photo is being printed, then the amount of sharpening may be perfect. If you are printing, the only real way to tell is to print it - don't make the decision based on the screen.

Thanks Dave & Wendy,
I did print it out & felt it appearred as if he were "staring" instead of looking at me. I will go back & try try again.
P.S. love the portrait classes!!!!!

Sherry ...
I think that it is just a matter of getting used to using it ... and having some idea of how much less the effect appears in print than it does on screen.
I've tried it out on quite a few of images and I think that I can now take a reasonable guess if it will look OK in print ... experiment a little and see :)

Wendy,
Yes, I know what you mean about getting used to seeing Things & knowing. I can crop to 8 x10 without any guide--just eyeballing it.
Thanks for your input.

He posted it a while ago---it was photoshopped & he was "cut" into small squares---I don't remember why.

Yes, I missed that one--I bet your niece looked sweet.....
(good walk though)
GaryK
October 18th, 2005, 09:04 PM
Sherry
She was getting a bit fidgity in the stroller so I put her on my shoulders, I think we mad about two laps and she was out like a light.
We did the walk in memory of her dad, so it was very emotional.

I'm so sorry to hear that about your brother (brother-in law). Breast cancer runs in my family so I'm very aware. I hope you have lots of photos to keep him alive for her.

Thanks Sherry
Coming up to a year in Dec. It's been tough for my sister.
She does have some photos, and she has just started scrapping, so I do creations (mostly from the tuts and stuff) send and if she likes them she gets them printed for her pages. :)
I send her all the ones I do..so like em or not she has to look at them :D
So now her and my other sis are fighting over whos kids I do more creations of . :)
jazzfisher
October 18th, 2005, 10:01 PM
Gary,
Just do one creation & just PSE in their faces & make one for each
kid!!
Ok, now to do my grays--hair, then I'll be back to try the eye thing again & I'll post new results. Hate those gray hairs!!!!
jazzfisher
October 19th, 2005, 12:33 AM
Ok this is re-done--it still looks a little strange on screen, but printed out it's decent.

I'm hoping they have a mask contest NEXT halloween..might have mine done by then
Wendy
October 20th, 2005, 06:26 PM
Gary ...
Quiet at the back of the class and get on with your mask !!
Wendy
jazzfisher
October 20th, 2005, 06:28 PM
Gary,
Exactly--I'm not even entering a mask 'cause I can't "create" yet with PSE. And with Wendy & Jodi in there--whew!
Hey, how do you do a screen shot anyway? I take it you mean a screen capture, right? I tried the other night, finally got it, but took forever to get into a jpeg so pixtentral could read it. I'm going back to taking a pic of my screen on my camera, then download & upload, it's faster.

The print scrn key, sends your whole screen to the clipboard you cna then make a File>new>image from clipboard in elements.
I am also using Gadwin Printscreen ..freeware product. It is a bit cumbersome, but I don't use it often, and that could be part of the reason. It allows you to draw a rectangle around the part of the screen you want to save .. like, just the layers pallet or an option bar or whatever.
Wendy
October 20th, 2005, 06:54 PM
Sherry ...
Oh do have a go at making a mask ... that is half the fun of it!!
The whole idea is that we have fun on Halloween and we all do masks ... it doesn't matter how good they are it is the making of them thats the most important aspect.
All you need to do is make a mask shape and stick some bits on it ... come on you can do that.
I'm making one just for fun ...!!

Thanks I'll try, didn't know about creating new blank file, etc... sounds easy enough.

Wendy
October 20th, 2005, 07:08 PM
Sherry ...
What you can do is just trace around a mask shape .. then dress it up !!
... or see what shapes you can use from the custom shapes folder.
You can do it ... we know that you can!!

Hmmmmmmm Wendy, I have taken a whole different appoach to my mask making. (I'm not telling). What I had done did freak my daughter out a bit. Maybe it's because her boyfriend is the model? (whoops let something slip)

I read and reread the instructions. They're pretty vague except for size. It's left open for interpretation. I think really that makes it even more fun as we all interpret things differently. I can't wait to see all the results!! It should be a lot of fun.

October 20th, 2005, 11:13 PM
I know you guys wouldn't make fun of my creations online---but who knows what you do offline!!!!

 Sherry, when we're off line we're sleeping and dreaming of our next creation. You have no worries.
Come on. Give it a try! What's the worst that can happen. Your mask is too scary?   Well that's the point isn't it???
Wendy
October 21st, 2005, 04:26 AM
Sherry ...
Another way of doing a mask is to take a headshot of someone, create a layer above it and then make your maks .. putting a headshot on screen will really help you.
Look forward to your mask ... hey Friday the 30th is going to be fun !!
