Hello all!
I’m asking the great minds here if they have done this, and if so does it work and how do you do it. I have heard that you can put a “transparent” layer (for a lack of a better work) over an image that will prevent it from being copied. If someone tries to save picture, copy as, or any other type of saving it would save the transparent layer and not the picture.
I’m just trying to be cautious with pictures of the kids.
Thanks,
Andy

Hi Andy ...
Ummm thats a new one on me ... maybe someone else has heard of it.
The only ones I have come across are the copyright notices across an image but that doesn't stop them being downloaded it just puts something on the image.
I did hear something a while back about a way of setting up a website that would stop the images being downloaded ... but as I don't use my own website then I really didn't take a lot of notice of it ... sorry :(

Yeah that's a new one on me as well. Functions to prevent right clicking on web sites are fairly standard programming feature when building web sites... but so are the short cuts around it.
I certainty haven't heard of anything like this in a package like Elements or Photoshop...

Maybe Grant has the answer on this, because you cannot copy the pictures used in "Grant's Challenge". You get a message that it can't be copied. Don't remember the exact message, but it stops you from copying.

Andy,
Nothing you do will prevent a user from just doing a "Print Screen". I see people doing everything possible to prevent downloads, but I have yet to see anything that can keep me from getting a copy of an image on my screen.

Screen Capture, digging the cache, etc.. all methods to prevent images from being copied are, more or less, ineffective because there's always a way around.
Best thing still is to put a visible watermark. Your name along with the copyright symbol will do nicely, in half opacity.

Well ...... I didn't know that you couldn't download images from the Challenge. I'm sure that I have done in the past   .
Let me just go check .... ummmm I can download them.
Maybe its because I am using Camino on a Mac????

I'm using Safari and it works also (i.e. I can download images). I think it's the way JavaScript is implemented.

I am on a PC with Internet Explorer and I can save a challenge entry by using the icon that appears with the save or print option. If I just right click on the image I can't save or print it. :)

I'm kind of hoping someone steals my work and profits from it....may be the only way I can actually make some real money when I drag his butt to court. KACHING !!!!

Why not make a Missing Styles 2 disk instead? Sounds more positive than bringing someone to court...

Gosh, I didn't mean to start something...I haven't download anyone's pictures to do anything with them for any profit or public use.
I have copied pictures from our gallery to put with the forum notes, that I keep a file of, so I can refer to what the steps were to create it. I hope this does not bother anyone. I would never infringe on anyone's copy rights.
Please don't take me to court, Jodi.. :)

Jodi, I'm not making any money at this either, but I just got back from my neighbours after they called to say could I please come over with my camera they have something new. I was pretty sure what the new would be. A little German Short Haired puppy. They had two and had to put them both down within 6 months of each other. Sooooooooooo now I have quite a few new pictues, and I just can't give them to her the way they are.........A few with flash problems and background issues, dark dog, dark house. LOL They want to send an announcement to friends...........hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
It wasn't the best photo shoot since the 4 year old kind of took over. I had to focus on the two of them rather than just the pup, in most shots.

Andy,
You might go to the Digimarc website and look at some of the watermarking and security features they have.

I thought from the original message that Andy was not just trying to protect the images themselves but being cautious about the images being of his kids ... so I assumed he was trying to stop them beind downloaded altogether ..
