Hello,

It's time to move up. I've about decided on the computer.

Dell Vostero 400, Core 2 Duo 4 mg cache 2.33 ghz.
320 gb hard drive 7200rpm
3gb ram 800 Mhz
dvd/cd+-rw drive 16x
NVIDA 8600 video card 256mb
office 2007 basic
roxio cd/dvd creator
PSE 6.0
19 in 1 card reader
set up and files transfered

How does this sound? I need help to get the most bang for the buck.

I would like to replace the monitor with a 20-22 in. lcd and need recomendation on good brands or sites that offer good reviews.

Tkanks for taking a look,

Mitch

I have the dell XPS. I think the core 2 duo w 4 MB cache is the key. It really seems to speed up processor intense programs like PSE (especially if the organizer and editor are open). My wife just got a new XPS notebook with the same type of processor and cache and its own video card. It came with PSE 6 and Premier 4 already loaded. Now if I can just pry it from her fingers.......

As far as the monitor. There has been some discussion about those large monitors-some comment that they are too big to be sitting computer distance away. I still use a 19 inch CRT because I like the color results better-but that is just me.

Thanks for the help,

The computer I am looking at has the Core 2 duo with 4mg cache. I think it will be fine. I looked at the Vostero line as I am not a gamer and it looked like the XPS line was more set up for that, trying to save a few dollars for the monitor. Need to get something ordered next week.

Mitch

The one big question that you didn't mention was the operating system. Vista or XP ?? That's something I'd have a tough time deciding right now.

I've decided to stay with XP for now. Still seems to be some bugs to work out with Vista. Any thoughts on the monitor situation?
