Out of Memory Error Message

I have Elements 3.0 and recently have had trouble opening the program. I get an out of memory error message when I try to download pictures from my Camera's Sandisk card to the computer. I've reloaded the elements program and it opens but won't download the pictures. I have plenty of space on my hard drive (63% usable space). Can I enlarge the memory used by the program? If so, how do I do this? Do I have to delete pictures in the files to gain back space? Any idea what my best solution is? I have XP.

Incidentally, when you search for words that are small; i.e., "out" "of", you should use the section of search that has the faint Google in the box. It will accept the smaller words that the forum search will not.
