Olympus sp-570uz

Hi folks,
i have been looking to upgrade from my P.A.S. camera and get a D-slr for a while now. ive read many of the reviews and opinions here and gained a lot of valuable info. With my style of shooting (industrial) i need a lcd screen to be able to see my shots. they are in awkward positions and im not as felxible as i used to be lol. from what i have read, this new olympus fits my needs. It has higher megapixels (10), 20x optical zoom and the 2.7 lcd. it also lets me go full manual which will be very helpful in some of the low light areas i shoot in. good price too. around $500.00
Does olympus support thier equipment well and do they have decent felxibility in their accessories?

Hi, Eric. I have the little brother to this camera (500 UZ) and I love it. I only have 10x zoom & 6 MP and it produces wonderful pictures, is VERY easy on batteries, and the xD cards hold twice as many pix as the Memory Stick my b/f's Sony uses.

In two years of hard (summer) use, banged around in my backpack, occasionally bumped on a rock while hiking (oops) it's never given me a lick of trouble, so I can't speak about customer service.

I'm looking to upgrade (more lens) and have looked at the Olympus that has the 18x lens (must be a step down from the one you mention). If my Olympus experience is typical, I will not hesitate to buy another.

Hi Eric,

The Olympus SP-570uz is not a DSLR. It's a new advanced p&s model to be released in March. The only accessories that will be available for this camera are a lens adapter, a tele-conversion kit, and a wireless flash. It's younger brother, the SP-560UZ, did receive some good reviews, but most we're not impressed with the noise from iso 400 or higher, or the very slow writing of raw files. Seeing you want to shoot in low-light conditions, you may want to wait for the camera to be reviewed before making your decision.

Val and Randy have given some excellent input regarding purchasing the Olympus.

Olympus has always been a good company that stands behind their product and this camera is likely no exception. But as Val mentioned about the noise, if you are doing industrial photography, I think you may be better off looking at the Canon Rebel XTi (or wait for the XSi) or the Nikon D40X. They are both small, and while they are more expensive than the Olympus, they have full lens interchangeability with a large assortment of lenses and accessories to choose from and have good ratings on low noise. They are also small and compact...not much bigger or heavier than the Olympus.

You can go to www.dpreview.com and check they buying guide to select the Canon and Nikon compared to the Olympus to see which one might suit your style of photography best.
