I have saved several "adjusted" photos (in .psd) and would like to go back and see what changes I made in each layer. (filters etc.) Is there a way of doing that. I am using elements 6.

Hi Larry,

Welcome to the Elements Village (EV) forum. Although others may find a work around, when you close a file you "clear" the undo history. To quote from the PSE 5.0 Help screen on Undo History:

"When you close and reopen the document, all states from the last working session are cleared from the palette."

I keep careful notes in a rather large loose leaf notebook to document things that I have done for just that reason. In fact, I am printing this post and placing it in that same notebook for future reference.

Cheers,

Bob

Hi, you can keep track of what you did on what layer by naming the layer with a descriptive name. This is especially helpful when it comes to fonts or filter.
(Thanks cats4jan!)
Other wise, like Robert said, its notes.

I put my steps and notes in File/file info (under the caption info). That way I have it when I go back in to work on my image.

Hi Norma,

That is a great idea. Keep the notes in the image. And it is right in line with the original question about "how did I get to where I am now." But, how do you use this system and remember what picture holds what notes? For example, you place cropping notes in picture MyImage.jpg. Now you have to crop a picture. I look in my notebook and "hope" I have a tab labeled "crop." (Often I don't, so it is an issue with a notebook too) Do you have some sort of a cross reference database?

Thanks,

Bob

Actually, I don't do any cross referencing. I just can remember. I do have my original and then I duplicate that and name my image something. Then when I save that image I'll put at the end "edited" or "crop" or "sharpen". All the other editing things I've done to the picture, like a technique or something to that effect I put in the notes section. Then if someone wants to know how I did something, it's there.
