View Full Version : Increase time for AVI files to play in Slideshow

I have just created my first slide show and was happy to discovered that my AVI files actually start to play when it comes due as the next slide.:)
But because I have the common slide duration set to 5 sec it stops playing after 5 seconds. :(
It doesn't appear that I can change the duration of an AVI file.
If I double click a jpg image I can change it's properties; including it's duration; but when I double click an AVI file everything remains grayed out.
Is there a way to get an AVI file to play all the way through?

This problem continues to confound me and no one seems to have any suggestions to how to address it. :(
Would it help if I posted this question in the Advanced section?

Mike
I might have noticed your question earlier if it had been placed in the Premiere Elements section, since Premiere Elements is a video editor in contrast to Photoshop Elements which is a photo editor.
You did not describe your setup, and I have not been involved in any of your prior posts, so I am left to speculate. I think that you are in Photoshop Elements 6, in its Slide Show Editor, with a Timeline of stills (jpegs) as well as video (DV AVI format), and are trying to adjust the duration of video as well as stills.
Photoshop Elements will NOT allow you to edit video there, duration or otherwise. It was only in recent versions did it allow you to include video at all with the Photoshop Elements Slideshow Editor.
What are you doing with your Slideshow after you create it in Photoshop Elements 6, if I have hit the right scenario? Do you have Premiere Elements?
Keep in mind, even with video editor, not to distort video and/or sound by increasing duration of the video....longer slow, slow....motion...shorter fast, faster,.....
If you fill in the missing gaps, I think we can figure this out.

In PSE6 create a slideshow, I have inserted video files and they played the entire video. I had the global slide length set to 7 seconds for all slides. I don't know if this helps or not.

I had my global slide length set to 5 sec.
I've tried, several times, to reset it, but all my slides still have the original 5 sec delay; it won't reset.:(
I tried resetting it and "Saving" the slide show. I also tried closing and reopening the slide show. Maybe I'll try loading an image and see if it loads with the global setting.

I think that you are in Photoshop Elements 6,Correct. I added that info to my signature because the question allways comes up; along with "what OS..."
in its Slide Show Editor, with a Timeline of stills (jpegs) as well as video (DV AVI format), and are trying to adjust the duration of video as well as stills.
Yes, the video is an AVI file. I'm not having problems resetting individual jpg files; except that I can't reset them globally, once I set them initially.
Photoshop Elements will NOT allow you to edit video there, duration or otherwise. It was only in recent versions did it allow you to include video at all with the Photoshop Elements Slideshow Editor. Do you have Premiere Elements?I understand that I can't edit the video; I need premier for that, and, no, I don't have it. But I'm giving it some very serious thought! :D
What are you doing with your Slideshow after you create it in Photoshop Elements 6? Well at this point I simply plan to take my laptop to rehab, where my good friend is a patient, and let her view me slideshow on it. I would like to make a copy on CD (I don't have a DVD recorder) that people can play on their computers. Eventually I would like to play my slideshows in HD TV screens; guess I will need a DVD recorder for that.

I tried setting the Global delay to 50 secs (the length of my video) then I went back into my Album and added the slide show again (deleting the original video).
Success! :D
The new time was attached to the video I added and it ran all the way through without a hitch!
Now if I could just figure out the "Sound Issue" question, posted in another thread

Mike,
There's an easier method to work around this bug -- in the Slideshow Editor, use Add Media > Photos and Videos from Folders to add the video clips to your slideshow. PSE 6 will pick up the correct duration for the clip:

When I used Elements 7 the other day to try to make a slide show of a wedding, I was annoyed to find it did not work correctly (maybe it works as designed, I don't know; but having created a number of video and still slide shows in Elements 5, I had never run into the problem of videos defaulting to the still photo display length. Sure enough I still had Elements 5 installed and it works correctly. I own Premiere Elements in both old and new versions, but it is overkill for quickly creating a slide show and I recommend the programmers strongly consider restoring the functionality. It shouldn't cost people $40 extra to make a simple slide show!!!

There is a simple workaround for that PSE 6/7 bug:

This bug is fixed in PSE 8.
