View Full Version : Shadows Caused by Flash

Hi everyone,

I took a ton of pictures today of my in-laws new puppy...but it was a low-light day, and I had to use my flash inside to capture him (he is a very fast mover!). Against a blank wall, I am getting severe "flash shadows" reflected. Is there any way to remove (or reduce) them, apart from cloning the background to erase them?

Thank you!

Sara

Hi Sara ...

Try Enhance>Adjust Lighting>Shadows/Highlights. Sometime it works OK ...

There is also a very good video on shadows in the subscribers area at PET if you are a subscriber there.

Sara,

I went through that same experience with my first series of indoor photos and my new camera with all auto settings. At first, I did not realize that the flash was involved and thought that I had a defective lens. My troubleshooting implicated the Flash..even going to soft Flash did not resolve the issue. So after that, I have the flash off and play with the ISO setting (but, too high and you are prone to blurs).

I tried several approaches to saving those otherwise great photos. Cloning was my answer. It took time and patience, but looked great afterwards. Cloning using a separate layer is the nondestructive way to go.

l have more of that batch to work on. If I come up with any other ideas along the way, I will post again.
