I've used Photoshop Elements 5 to make slideshows for my HDTV by creating a wmv file with a 720p format. I'd really like to move up to the 1080i format. Can anyone tell me how to do that? Does anyone know if Photoshop Elements 6 has that capability? Or Premier Elements 4? I will upgrade if I need to.
Thank in advance.

Hi there and welcome to the forum. In principle it's possible although I haven't done it. You basically need to get hold of a 1920x1080 pixel prx file or roll your own. Elements doesn't come with one but it does let you browse to custom prx files. Like you, the highest I've used is 720p (1280x720 pixels at 30 fps which comes with Elements). Bear in mind though that the higher the definition the longer it's going to take to generate the .wmv file and whether the difference is worth the effort I guess is a matter of opinion ;).

I started thinking about 1080i and Photoshop Elements/Premiere Elements recently and got detoured. I do not have camcorder or other HDV equipment to support the interest. Nonetheless, I have been trying to keep up with the technology until the necessary equipment and I get together. The following represents my early explorations into the subject:

What does your current burner, player, and TV support (formats as well as disc types)? What discs do you plan on using? How do you plan to view your 1080i? Does your computer system have the resources for processing HDV p720 or 1080i? Premiere Elements 4 supports 1080i not 1080p, so I am not sure if Photoshop Elements 6 would support 1080p even if a 1080p profile were created and used for a profile in its wmv output option.
Many people downgrade the use of the wmv slideshow intermediate. Often their workflow is Photoshop Elements 5, now 6, slideshow sent as non wmv using the Send to Premiere Elements output option, followed by export in Premiere Elements 3, now 4. (See details above for export options in above links.) Earlier versions of these program combos only supported the wmv intermediate.
The following will give you an idea of your output options for Premiere Elements 3

My understanding is that Premiere Elements 3 allows you to capture HDV footage, but the DVD-VIDEO output route will give you standard not HDV. As you will read in the above, from Premiere Elements 4 you can burn 720p and 1080i to BluRay disc, not a DVD disc.
As I said, right now I have Photoshop Elements 6 and Premiere Elements 4 that would give me several HDV options to explore if only I had the equipment. So, if you do have all that is needed to get started in this type of project, I will look forward to your observations.
To be continued, if necessary.

ATR, thanks for the help. The threads were encouraging.
Currently I have a 36" HDTV and an XBOX360 that is networked to my home network. I play the wmv files on the XBX by streaming the files from my PC. There are several ways to do this, but I am currently using TVersity as the streaming application. I dont need to actually burn the DVD until I am satisfied with the product. I have wmv files with both 720p and 1080i resolutions and you can see the difference even on my smaller HDTV.
I don't have Premier Elements, so I'm not sure exactly what it is for.
If I understand your comments, I could be using Photoshop Elements to build the slideshow, export the show to Premier Elements using some sort of proprietary export file (not wmv), and then use the Premier Elements to build the 1080i resolution wmv file. If thats correct, it looks like I may be upgrading soon.

Bruce,
Adobe has a free 30 day tryout of Premiere Elements 4 as well as Photoshop Elements 6.
http://www.adobe.com
Why not download them and see if you gain any advantage using them.
