text tool problem

This is probably a problem caused by something very stupid that I am doing. When I try to edit a text layer it refuses to highlight and just opens a new text layer. I am using elements 4. I am sure I used to be able to do this so what has changed? I'd be grateful for any guidance... Eain

On the far left of the option bar, click on the picture of the "T" and then choose "Reset Tool" and see if that doesn't fix it.

Hi ...

It could be that you are now quite htting the right spot when you try to highlight the text .. in which case it will create a new layer.

Try it this way instead .. go to the layers palette and double click on the text layer thumbnail. That should highlight the text for you :)

I am using PE5 and that has happened to me today several times. I am like you I have not notice this happening to me before. It adds another layer when I am trying to edit

I usually use Wendy's method to highlight text in order to edit it. If you try to highlight text by dragging the cursor over it you must make sure to start dragging as close as possible to the last letter - if there is too much space then it just creates a new layer for you to type on.
