I purchased a Hitachi hybrid (uses dvd as well as a 30gb hard drive)camcorder for my wife for X-mas. We love it but when recording using the HD hard drive it records in MPEG so I can play it using windows media player but I can't edit using windows movie maker. The software that it came with is terrible & useless. Is there a video editing software out there similar to movie maker? I have not tried recording to the mini disc yet.

Sorry, I am a still photographer so, I can't advise on this one...
Anyone out there do video editing that can add their two cents worth?

You may want to take a look at this link (http://desktopvideo.about.com/od/editingsoftware/a/freevidedit.htm) to see what info it offers for your needs.

Other than free video editing tools, you have Premiere or Premiere Elements; Sony Vegas, and probably a few more that I don't know about to choose from.

My experience is on the Mac (iMovie and Final Cut), so I have not personally tried any of the above tools.

Premier Elements will do what you want, I think. I've used WinDVD Creator, (as Premier Elements won't install on my AMD machine) and it works well, too.

A buddy of mine, Rod Harlan, has an excellent blog about video. He also works for NAPP.
